sald, Go West young man, go West ? - 7 obert Scheele Winston Scott Marjorie Webb The 1974 Social Science Department delved into many different ex- periments in education. They had guest speakers from all walks of life come in and share with the students their ideas and view points to provide the student with more infor- mation from a source much better than a book. The mock Congress was voted a large success by Government classes. From it more was learned by both students AND faculty than could have been ac- complished by just a reading assign- ment. The Social Science Departments goal was to see to it that the student became more and more aware of and involved with the world around him today. At NW that goal is being achieved. Strange con- coctions, babbling incantations, and strange rituals accompanying the sounds of animals scurrying in their cages seemed to abound in that area. It may not have been as slnlster as all that. It was simply science that occurred there daily. Biology, physics, and chemistry are all traditional classes In which sometimes extremely untradltlonal teaching methods were used. There were also some new alternatives to old classes. The new Student Naturalist course taught by Mr. Wen- dall Mohllng was the latest alter- native for 1974. Jungle foliage flourishes under natural greenhouse llght.
