Legs, lungs, and lips make the Marching Band move. This was the year of the Cougar! The SMNW Marching Cougar Pride set out to show the area that out of the five marching bands in the district the Cougar Pride was one of the best! The 112 members and twirlers were drilled, yelled at, stuffed with music, drilled, yelled at some more, and only then were they allowed to go home to rest. The band grew and matured with frightening speed and with an efficiency comparable to that of a university band. The band was hailed as excellent wherever it travelled, but the most response was received after the annual District Marching Festival. The Marching Cougar Pride looks forward to next year. As they say -the best just gets better. BAND: Joe Petersen, director: Lana Koon, mascot: Julie Babb Bolen, Jane Boston, Ken Brlght, Bob Christiansen, Martha Crane Jamieson, Vernon Leat, Kelth Love, Kim Madouras, Drew Mann 1 Dwight, Glenn Engel, Chris Gardner, Todd Himpel, JoAnn Hootz, . Every Friday you could depend on the Pep Band with their black pants, orange shirts, and white letter- sweaters. Sports events weren't all they played for. They were the only band performing at the dedication of the new Johnson County Courthouse. Members of the Pep Band were chosen by audition and past record, making it a predominately upperclass group. The band worked hard to provide support- and pep! Pep Band blows out the stuff. Pep Band 105
