TUMBLINC from the surprise package that was 1954-55 IS a hodge-podge of head- lines The London Agreement falls front and center amidst news of Safe Driving Day giant earthquakes 1n the West and a milk-dr1nk1ng premier Heated debates on the floor of the Senate-and over the backyard fences of America-preceded the censure of a controversial Congress member Through wide-spread publicity on the newsstands of the world the eight- leth birthday of a noted prime m1n1ster tional attention The first televised cabi- net meeting was watched by viewers from New York to San Francisco Sweeping across the country came a Do-it-yourself craze the mambo beat spread with like contaglon Kansas City cheered its major league entrance con tributed four million to the United Funds Drive and exchanged a concert broadcast with West Germany. Un every street corner, mid-term elections and hurricanes Carol and Edna were the focal points. Science set a speed record for land travel, but Mr. Average Citizen was content with Sunday driving in his 1955 model auto- mobile. Setting the pace in the fashion world were Bermuda shorts and knee socks. The crucial mission of asking for the return of American soldiers sent the Unit- ed Nations secretary-general to the other side of the globe--into the land of rice . . . and Communists. Yes, this year's events flew by with lightning-like speed, and now the surprise package is only a memory. What's that? The 1954-55 color scheme?
