During fhe fhree years he has served in his presenf posifion, everyone has come fo admire lv1urlie's fairness and co-operafion. Uppermosf in his scheme of fhings was his ready affenfion fo sfudenf problems, liffle and big. Being able fo see fhe ofher person's poinf of view was a characferisfic of every decision. The day's dufies in fhe vice-principal's office included affenfion fo discipline, class schedules, enrollmenf, and fhe recording of voluminous files and records. Helping fo keep fhe office roufine running smoofhly were his. efficienf assisfanfs, Mrs. Glen Soellner and Miss Agnes Barfhol. Nof all of Mr. Welch's hours were spenf on office prob- lems. A sharp glance here, a word of warning fhere, a nod, all were small precaufions infended fo help a sfudenf remember his obligafions fo Shawnee-Mission. A Because of his friendliness. he was eagerly anficipafed whenever he sfepped fo fhe microphone. Lisfeners knew .fhey could expecf a good laugh or a well-direcfed piece of advice. Anchors in a Changing World was fhe fheme used for our programs for fhe year, which included Legislafion, lnfernafional Relafions, and Cifizenship Educafion. We can feel very proud fhaf our school was chosen as one of fhe forfy oufsfanding high schools in fhe counfry fo be repre- senfed af fhe Eisenhower Conference. Miss Anna Marie Edwards and Mr. McEachen, who reporfed fo us on fhe Cifizenship Educafion program, were our represenfafives. To fop our work for fhe year, and by way of cele- brafing. we honored our faculfy wifh a dinner af fhe opening of fhe school cafeferia. We hope you will come ouf and gef acquainfed wifh us nexf year.
