During the football season, the sophomore cheerleaders split into two teams so that both the black and the white football teams would have cheerleaders. The 12 girls chosen in September practiced twice a week. J.V. cheerleaders are always synchronized. Cheerleaders add spirit to the crowd. JV Cheerleaders-Bottom row KL-RJ: C. Newcomer, J. Feiock, J. Love, B. Beilharz, E. Mulcahy. Girls Spark Team Spirit lt's a lot of fun but a lot of hard work goes into it, said J,V. cheerleading captain, Janet Love. The J.V. cheerleaders kept busy by attending all of the J.V. sports. They also cheered during the third quarter for varsity football games when the varsity team went to the opponent's side to do the varsity's hello cheer. The J.V. cheerleaders began practicing last summer. When school started, they practiced two times a week at 6:15 in the morning. Heralders cheer while Debbie Barnes fsecond from left! meditates. nf' Girls Keep Tradition Six girls at East make up the Heralding squad. The six Heralders this year are Kathy Miller, Carrie Hall, Lisa Mick, Carolyn Whitehead, Debbie Barnes, and Rebecca Walker. The Heralders perform the opening ceremonies at Pep As- semblies and at both boys' and girls' basketball games. The Heralders also take care of the mascot. The mascots are unmasked at the year's last assembly. The Lancer mascots this year were Stephanie Grant, Camella Bailey, Lisa Mick, and Carolyn Whitehead. The mascots gen- erate spirit at football and basketball games. They also per- form the opening ceremonies at the pep assemblies. Heraldersf29
