Hodges, M. Newman, L. Terwell, M. Burger. Julie Sayler enjoys a game from the sidelines. Girls' Goal Is Spirit Spirit and hard work are what the cheerleaders at SM East ' contributed to the school. The cheerleaders' goal was to pro- mote spirit said varsity captain Amy Friesen. They achieved this goal by having early morning practices which were from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. The practices started the day school was out last year, and continued throughout the summer. In July, the cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association Cheerleading Camp. While at camp, they received the Award of Excellence which is the top award given by the camp. They were chosen as the number one team out of approximately 100 other teams. Freisen commented that the award was a real honor. 26lVarsity Cheerleaders . , ' x 1 el 1 4

J.V. cheerleaders are always synchronized. Cheerleaders add spirit to the crowd. JV Cheerleaders-Bottom row KL-RJ: C. Newcomer, J. Feiock, J. Love, B. Beilharz, E. Mulcahy. Girls Spark Team Spirit lt's a lot of fun but a lot of hard work goes into it, said J,V. cheerleading captain, Janet Love. The J.V. cheerleaders kept busy by attending all of the J.V. sports. They also cheered during the third quarter for varsity football games when the varsity team went to the opponent's side to do the varsity's hello cheer. The J.V. cheerleaders began practicing last summer. When school started, they practiced two times a week at 6:15 in the morning.
