W A M I-Iarbie Sets Own Brand of Journalism East's paper, the Harbinger, boasts some of the fastest pens in the west. Not only were they the fastest on the draw, but those mean hombres always seemed to hit the target. The fact that the Harbie is the only weekly publica- tion on the Shawnee Mission reservation just shows the speed and efficiency of the Harbinger staff. As greenhorns, folks entered Journalism I, but by the end of that course, they were ready for some real learning in the school of hard knocks-the Harbinger. At that point they signed up with Mr. Robert fMattl Dillon, head gaucho around the SME 104 outfit, for some hard writin'. He chose careful like and done picked his feature, business, photography, sports, news, and advertising staffs. Sure enough, all these hands were worthy companions to ride the trail with. When he finished with the staffs, he picked Big Chief Sitting Editor, whose job was to ride herd over all the other cowpunchers. Though the wages they got weren't, all their work was real fine quality. As a fighting unit they put out 26 papers as good as any this side of the Rockies. HARBINGER EDITORS: J. Shapiro, H. uill and Scroll- Talented Journalists While Quills and Scrolls went out of style with the powdered wig, the Quill and Scroll is a group that is alive, well, and flourishing in our high schools all over the United States. its purpose is to give deserving high school journalists some recognition for outstanding achievements on their school publications. What are the criteria for membership in the Quill and Scroll? One prerequisite is involvement with one of East's publications-namely the Harbinger, the Labyrinth, or the Hauberk. Then, the matter goes to a higher court-a selective review board made up of Mr. Robert Dillon, Harbinger advisor, and Ms. Linda Thom- son, Hauberk advisor. Those students who are suitably qualified to complete this judging process successfully are entitled to call themselves full-fledged Quill and Scroll members. Along with the honors of membership in this organization, students receive a year's subscrip- tion to the official Quill and Scroll newsletter as a tangi- ble reward.
