Education is not a game with only one path to follow. From its central route, each of us has the opportunity to take different tangents, explore a variety of detours, or establish our own personal game plan. Activities provide a deviation from the routine eight to three school day. There is an alternate route available to any student seeking one. l l Serving many diverse purposes, the Shawnee Mission East Student Government of 1977-1978 acted as a link between the student body, the faculty, and the administration. Headed by President Tom Fiooker, Vice-President Gretchen Harper, Secretary Barbara Whitehead, and Treasurer Stacey Sakoulas, the Student Council successfully motivated students to become interested and involved in school affairs. One of the most successful projects was the new Teacher Appreciation Day. Assemblies, the Homecoming and Sweetheart Dances, and Cultural Arts Week were also handled by committees of the student Council. Among the most prosperous ac- tivities, however, were the charity drives. These in- cluded United Fund Week and the annual Walk for Mankind.
