East hitmen in search of a South Raider. 28fBOYS' PEP CLUB Through its spirited and sometimes unique form of enthusiasm the Boys' Pep Club con- tributed to the spirit of sports events and in do- ing so added a vital aspect to the games. Con- sisting of over 400 members, and led by Bob Sperry, presidentg Jim Putt, vice-president, Scott Templeton, treasurerg and Jeb Brown, secretaryg the Boys' Pep Club tried to promote spirit and pride in the school and school ac- tivities. All the stunts and humorous chants, per- formed in a spontaneous, casual manner by the yell leaders only presented one side of the Boys' Pep Club. At meetings, normally held on Fridays before games, a more serious side to the Club revealed itself. The officers, meeting with the yell leaders and Mr. David Wolff, sponsor, discussed and tried to decide upon the best ways that they could stimulate interest and enthusiasm for that particular game. They also tried to find ways to appeal not only to members of the Boys' Pep Club, but to everyone in the stands. The Pep Club did not limit its activities to cheering at the games. It also worked on Pep Club assemblies with the Girls' Pep Club and contributed prize money for the winner of the Lancer Day Car Contest. In these ways the Boys' Pep Club tried to combine fun with the serious job of representing the school. fxiw ...ff Get your rear in gear and go!!

The motto, act well your part, there all the honor lies, became a reality as new members were in- itiated in the spring. To have qualified for membership, one must have earned ten points by working on a minimum of two stage productions as a member of the cast or crew or by participating in forensics tournaments. Thespian memberships came primarily from Actors, Studio, Repertory Theater, and the stagecraft classes. Thespians were also service-oriented. The selling of programs and concessions at football and basketball games filled not only their pocketbook, but also filled a need for responsible and dedicated people working at the games. In October, Thespians put on a tasty banquet for the Up With People cast members. Various workshops involving theatrical technique were attended by Thespians, also. 1 THESPIAN OFFICERS-LEFT TO RIGHT: Karen Laner Vice dent, Cheryl Rawlings-Secretary, John Van Wye Treasurer Fishman-President, BACK ROW: Mr. Evans.
