LL! 15241 lub Spirit This year, the girls' pep club loyally ex- ecuted an abundance of S.M. spirit toward all school sponsored athletic events. Wear- ing new uniforms consisting of a Lancer plaid skirt topped with a blue sweater, each member faithfully attended and ac- tively supported all of East,s sport ac- tivities. Meeting unfailingly every Monday after school were the members of the executive committee, Ann Catlett, Mary Clarke, Kit- ty Wilson, and Laurie Douglass. The smooth organization of pep club can be at- tributed to these officers. Pep Club, S.M. East's largest club, fulfilled many respon- sibilities such as: planning pep assemblies, painting signs to publicize events, awar- ding the miniature megaphone to the i'Pepster-of-the-week , decorating goal posts, baking team treats and, above all, attending and supporting athletic ac- tivities. Pep and spirit-that was SM East. Neither rain, snow, sleet nor hail could daunt the spirit of the girls' pep club. High spirits, syncopated chanting, and organiz- ed cheering were the inspirations that led to our Lancer victories. PEP CLUB EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE-ROW ONE: Kitty Wilson, Laurie Douglass, Mary Clarke. Con- sisting of over 400 members, and led by Bob Sperry, presidentg Jim Putt, vice-president, Scott Templeton, treasurerg and Jeb Brown, secretaryg the Boys' Pep Club tried to promote spirit and pride in the school and school ac- tivities. All the stunts and humorous chants, per- formed in a spontaneous, casual manner by the yell leaders only presented one side of the Boys' Pep Club. At meetings, normally held on Fridays before games, a more serious side to the Club revealed itself. The officers, meeting with the yell leaders and Mr. David Wolff, sponsor, discussed and tried to decide upon the best ways that they could stimulate interest and enthusiasm for that particular game. They also tried to find ways to appeal not only to members of the Boys' Pep Club, but to everyone in the stands. The Pep Club did not limit its activities to cheering at the games. It also worked on Pep Club assemblies with the Girls' Pep Club and contributed prize money for the winner of the Lancer Day Car Contest. In these ways the Boys' Pep Club tried to combine fun with the serious job of representing the school. fxiw ...ff Get your rear in gear and go!!
