ORCHESTRA Qs r if 'Q an GRADE oecugsrm Shawnee's two orchestra's, directed by Mr. Dick Seeger, performed at the winter and spring concerts, competed in the Northrop Orchestra Festival, and toured the elementary schools presenting fine music to all. SHA WIVEE SINGER! The Shawnee Singers, consisting of 12 sopranos, altos, and baritones, are selected through try-outs in the spring. Eight members of this select group are also in the Fort Wayne All-City Choir. The Shawnee Singers perform at the Northrop Choir Festival and compete in the ISSMA Organizational contest in addition to their two Shawnee concerts. GIRL! ' CHOIR Shawnee's Girls' Choir consists of 26 singers who sign up to be in the choir. They joined forces with the Shawnee Singers for the Northrop Choir Festival. Four of the Sth grade members participated in the ISSMA Organizational contest. The Girls' Choir treats us to a winter and spring concert. 6222 GRADE CHOIR 6th Grade Choir has 44 members who signed up to sing the preceding spring. This choir teamed up with the Girls' Choir to sing at Shawnee's Winter Concert and performed at ISSMA and the spring concert. MLIGIG TOL! NE! 615 GRADE BAND BEGINNING BAND Shawnee's music program begins with a strong foundation in the 6th grade. Students in the 6th Grade Band have already played an instrument for a year. Several members of this band won first place in local solo and ensemble contests. 6th Grade Beginning Band students start playing their instruments this year. They perform in one concert in the spring. Ll! MTH SONG A BAND B BAND Ill' 7th and 8th graders participate in either A or B Band. A Band includes select players who have tried out for a chair. Many members from the A Band won firsts in area solo and ensemble contests. Both A and B Band perform in two concerts during the school yearg one near Christmas and the second in the spring. .MNA JAZZ BAND jazz Band meets after school and functions as a club. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader may participate in jazz band. Miss Coleman and Miss Kehne teach this very active group swing style jazz music. sp. he 99 . 2 - ff, fr f ,,ff ' Throughout the year the music department has brought rhythm, jazz, choral, and classical music to our school. In both the winter and spring concerts we were treated to some excellent performances. Shawnee music groups took their show on the road to the feeder schools. Many Shawnee students excelled in local music competitions. This was Coach Zent's third city victory. Coach Mrs. Williams is encouraged because most of the squad will be returning for the 87-88 season.
