Shawnee Varsity Field Hockey Once again, the girls field hockey team, young but surprisingly ready and raring to show their ability, proved themselves by displaying an impressive record of 13-5-3. The team's tri-captains this year were seniors Linda Irwin, Karen Mason and Debbie Gerber. Mason led the attack with 16 goals which helped the team earn their 2nd straight Burlco Liberty Division Championship. The only other two starting seniors were backs Lori Luttrell and Jackie Heintz who were the key in helping goalie Debbie Gerber earn her 9 shut-outs and allow only 18 goals all season. The team's season ended with a 1-0 loss to Toms River North in an unfortunate controversial issue with less than a minute to play in the semi-tinal game for the South Jersey title, but prospects again look high for the team next year with less than half the team leaving.
