A chemistry experiment, the distillation of petroleum, draws the attention of the entire class. Frontiers of science are explored Facilities of an especially well equipped labora- tory give the science field at Shawnee a real boost. In both chemistry and physics classes, the students work in teams of two. Each team has a private working booth with the test tubes, thistle tubes, burners, flasks, and chemicals needed to work any experiment. Ofttiines it is necessary to prepare a gas whic has a disagreeable odor or is poisonous. In orde to achieve this, the lab has been gifted with hood, a chamber which enables the students t work with such materials in complete safety.
