Presentation of the comedy, A Little Honey, topped this field, but running not far behind were the sales of booster badges, Christmas cards, and pecans. All this was effected in hopes not only of staging a colorful prom, but also of having a large surplus for a school memorial. To their enthusiasm the members of the Class of '54 add the ability for leadership, demonstrated as officers in all Shawnee organizations. They believe that 1952-53 has provided a strong basis for an even better, that all-important, senior year ahead. Rings, here at last! So begins the Y-Teen purpose, and this year's 94 members have striven to carry out that purpose to its full- est meaning. The solemn consecration service on wRECk night, followed by the hilarity of that Y-Teen slumber party, a rip-roaring basketball game with the Hi-Y, and a Heart Hop, co-sponsored with that organization, were high pointers in the huge list of activities. Vice President - Program Chairman Officers - - - - - Jean Lotz - - Sue Kraft - - Joyce Tecklenberg - - - Jeannie Hughes - Ann Van Meter The Y-Teens and Hi-Y presented an assembly fea- turing the movie, One God, and inaugurated pre-Easter services, conducted by the students themselves. Armed with mops and pails, the girls spent one precious Saturday spring house- cleaning for local invalids, and found, to their amazement, that housecleaning can be fun! The annual mother-daughter tea, given by the Y-Teens, at which the 1953-54 officers were in- stalled, concluded the events for the school calen- dar ear. However, a fellowship is not merely social. Our braves finished the season with a record of 12 wins and 9 losses. Coach Paul Bricker's fighting five built around the returning lettermen from last year's squad proved to be a good ball club. Dick Gus Mauk, Coach Bricker's outstanding player, was selected on the Western Buckeye League All-Star Team as Forward. Consequently the Quilna Staff wishes to thank all those people who have so kindly extended their cooperation in the production of this 1953 annual. To our teachers who have been inconvenienced at times, to our leaders, our advisers, our activity groups, our friends, and the entire student body, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks. With your help and consideration we have attempted to give you a picture of the past year at Shawnee. We hope you like it. O pardon me! We have almost forgotten someone. We do wish to thank Mr. Bookworm for spending many long hours digesting the material which we have placed before him, so that through his eyes, you may get a better understanding of school life at Shawnee. The students are active cmd full of pep, While the faculty jumps to keep in step. They excel in everything in Shawnee High And their abilities reach clear up to the sky. To strive for perfection in all they attempt, And to reap the rewards from which others are exempt- aw In hawnee Is their one main ambition that never shall die ln this wonderful school of Shawnee High. And now please excuse me, l'll take my repose, For I'm bursting the buttons right off my clothes I've consumed so much that l'm full to the brim Like an old pork barrel that is filled to the rim.
