MARY JUNE LAFFERTY departs with an engagement ring. , ELIZABETH HODOES leaves, with advice to all the younger girls, rules on How to get your man . P. S. If there are any left. GEORGE PETERS bequeaths his love for the teachers to JIMMY PAPPAN. JIM CHYZ leaves with an A. W. O. L. de- gree. BOB NELSON and JIMMY WALLIS leave their Crosby crooning to Mr. Strong. MAXINE REAVES leaves her ability to spell to the fellow sufferers of the Office Practice class of '44. We will BETTY NEWMAN'S man power to HELEN STOKES and power to her. LUCILLE SANDS leaves. but with her list of Service men. To anyone who has the ability to hold a man for one or more years, IDA ROBINSON wills her true-to-one attitude. BOB SMITH leaves his mustache to ROY FERGUSON. SHIRLEY HADDOCK wills her ability to draw pretty dolls to talented CLYDE WEST. OTIS OSBORN leaves his blessed innocence to BOB MITCHELL. Seam Glen Jlfaiwf ing program followed. After refreshments were served, the guests finished the remain- der of the evening at a special preview at the Bison Theater. School began again! And at last the stu- dents of the Class of '43 had become privil- eged members of the upper-crust , members of that most exclusive society of parasites known as seniors. The year was begun with: Bill Wise-President. Matt Hampton-Vice President. Jo Ann McCoy, Secretary. Mildred Williams, Treasurer. Jolly Griggs and Miss Lois Budd, sponsors. JOE SMITH was elected president of the Student Councilg VERNA RUTH FORSTON, vice-president, and BET'I'YE CURRIN, sec- retary. R. L. DYER was elected Caldron Editor, and members of the Caldron Staff were IDA ROB- INSON, VERNA RUTH FORTSON, JEAN VVARREN, JIMMY WALLS, BOB CHANDLER and ELIZABETH HODGES. As the football season was opened VIRGIE OLIVER was elected football queen and was crowned at the coronation during the half of the football game, Atoka vs. Shaw- nee. Football Captain for this year was HIAROLD LIDDELL. Members of the Senior Class on the football team Were: GERALD HARP, Col'I'I'oN ADAMS, JACK DODSON, JACK HOPE, CLINT LEWIS, BILL RAMSEY, JACK CKOMBS, GENE VVOMMACK, CHUCK ,PRIC'E, RED HENSLEY, R. L. DYER, BOB TROXELL. NORMA LEE RAPP was once again chosen to represent the class and was crowned Bas- ketball Queen by JIM CHYZ, captain of the Wolves. Senior boys on the basketball team were: BILL WISE, JIM CHYZ, R. L. DYER, CLARK CONSTANT, KNOX SLAGLE. Three girls were chosen for a contest spon- sored by the D. A. R. They were DOROTHY AJRNOLD, NORMA LEE RAPP and JEAN WARREN. JEAN WARREN Was selected as representative for the school and was entered in a national contest. JEAN WARREN was chosen president of the Honor Society, and seniors added to the Na tional Honor Society were: CHARLES ALI..- GOOD, JUANITA AUTRY, BETTY BOYD, JERRY CORBEN, GORDON CORNELL, NANCY DILLON, MELVIN CLARK, MAURINE HIAM, ELLSWORTH HONEYCUTT, EILEEN KUlVllLER, ANN LOWLREY, ANN PORTER- FIELD, SYBIL PUCKETT, IRMZA JO SELF, WANDA SHEPHERD, KNOX SLAGLE, LOIS SPEARS, JAMES WALLIS, GENE WOMMACK, EDWARD THORTON, CLARK CONSTANT, The class then presented its annual Senior Play, Arsenic and .Old Lacy by Kesseling, directed by Miss Lois Budd and Mr. Jolly Griggs. A committee Was chosen to select the an- nouncements: COTTON ADAMS, BILL WISE, LINDSEY PETERS, KNOX SLAGLE, GERAL- DINE THOMPSON, BETTY NEWMAN. The students especially enjoyed Senior Day, at which time they reverted to their child- hood, presenting some weird and interesting spectacles. During Commencement Week the Seniors had a varied and interesting round of activi- ties, which included a Senior Breakfast, en- tertainment by the Juniors at a Junior-Sen- ior Reception, and the annual Baccalaureate and Commencement service. Two hundred fifty composed the graduating class of '43, Although they were weary and battle-scarred from their four tough years spirit that marked their high school days. in high school, they were ready to tackle the problems of life with the same vitality and Thus ends the history of the Senior Class of 1943, but, in reality, it is only the begin- ning.

Directors Lois A. Budd Ioliy F. Griqqs senden 61644 play The Senior Class of Shawnee High School took pride in presenting the play Arsenic And Old Lace in the Municipal Auditorium, Fri- day night, May 7, IQ43. Under the direction of Miss Lois A. Budd and jolly F. Griggs, the play was the highlight of the school year. Bodies ln Our Cellari' was the name of F. the play when it was first Written, but it was changed to Arsenic And Qld Lace. The story had to do with two smart, but mentally unbalanced, old ladies who decided that if they devoted their lives to helping lonely old men escape from Life, they would be doing good work. Thirteen delightful murders were their final record. Sanity and murder had not prev- iously been employed with such riotous re- sults. It was a noisy, preposterous, incoherent joy. You wou'ldn't believe that homical mania could be such fun. The cast of the play included: Abby Brewster, played by Ida Rob- insong The Reverend Dr. Harper, by jack Reeseg Teddy Brewster, Bob Chandlerg Officer Brophy, Bob Ashby, Officer Klein, Bill Ram- seyg Martha Brewster, Verna Ruth Forstong Mortimer Brewster, Dick Williamsg Mr. Gibbs, Joe Crist. Jonathan Brewster was played by L. D. McClureg Dr. Einstein, Edward Thorntong Officer O'l-lara, Homer Thompsong Lieut. Roon- ey, Matt Hampton, and Mr. Witherspoon, Oliver Reed. Stage man- ager was james Bradley, property manager, Shirley Haddock. The play was a huge success as it ended a glorious and victorious three years for the Senior Class.
