ELLSWORTH HoNEYcuT'r Vmcll. MCGRAW JIM CHYZ Boa SMITH LE Rov FRAz1ER OTIS OSBURN KENNETH BARRETT BILL RAMSEY psi'-1. ...af-P an-dl' vi. Seam Glam llaafdfacq The year 1950: Several of us were looking through some papers ten and twelve years old, and found, to our dismay, that many of our old class- mates of the year 1943 were among the names listed. It was interesting to compare the stu- dents' activities then with what they are do- ing now. We found the following: MARTHA ANN MOORE, the perfect wife, waiting for doctor husband, DICK KING, to come home from a call to the office. KATHRYN CKHAKIJ KNOUSE, wearing her silver wingsv on her third finger, left hand. BOB ASHBY seated behind a dentist's chair with his hcarming nurse, VERNA RUTH FORSTON. BETTIE DEATHERAGE COOLEY finally had reached her lifelong ambition of becom- ing boxing champion of the Shawnee Wo- rn-enis team. EILEEN KUMLER had become head of the Oklahoma Division of Womens Christian Temperance Union with ESMA WYANT as vice-president. WANDA SHEPHERD finally has that farm down in Connecticut she had been talking about for so long. But where were the nine cats she also referred to? NORMA RAPP and EMMA JEAN BURNS were together as always, but this time as old maids, still plotting how to catch a man Without using their trusty net. DOROTHY ANN HIGLEY and ANN LOW- REY were still laughing at each other's jokes, as they used to do in former high school days. Or were they just laughing at each other? MELVIN CLARK was leading his former band, f'The Old Timersi' with JACQUE BURNS on the JeW's harp, in his original composition, the Green Corn Boogie. We next saw our old friend, COTTON ADAMS, better known as Colonel Adams, for his heroic deeds in World War II, industrious- ly carrying out his usual job of chopping cherry trees on the White House grounds. BETTYE CURRIN had become head driver of a National Trucking Firm because of her unusual ability in safe and better driving. We saw LINDSAY PETERS suffering from a mental breakdown caused from worrying too much about those two absences from class he had back in 'fl3. BILL RICHARDS had finally become head of the Cute Carrier Boys Union and his famous writer-wife, ANNE PORTERFIELD, had completed her third book in a series en- titled Home Problems Made Easy. DICK WILLIAMS was still comparing moron jokes with anyone who was sucker enough to listen. It might also be mentioned here that a perfect example of MISS BUDD'S her- ic couplet were DICK WILLIAMS and GLADYS WILES.

Swm Glen allmtwf In September, 1939, about three hundred fifty young hopefuls composed the Freshman Class of Shawnee High School. Although this class was inexperienced in the ways of sophis- ticated high school students, it was quite cap- able of holding its own, because of the able leadership of its officers: 'L President-Bruce Marts. Vice President-Joe Smith. Secretary-Jean Warren. Treasurer-Randall Braman. Sponsors-Mrs. Hazel Guttery and Don Hansen. After the class had established its reputa- tion of being a Sopihomore Class of some re- pute, and after that dazed and lost expression had changed to that of a man of the world, well-versed in high school customs, the class Was ready to settle down in earnest at the business of being Sophies. Its first achievement was the election of BETSY ANN EVANS as Sophomore Attend- ant to the Football Queen. Th-en the Sophomore Class, in order to as- sert itself, sponsored an assembly composed only of Sophomores. The assembly was well received by the high school, and was consid- ered one of the best assemblies of the year. Those taking part were: JAMES OWEN, BER- NICE AMEND, BET'I'YE CURRIN, ESMA WYANT, LOUETTA DUCKWORTH, JEAN WARREN, IDA ROBINSON, VERNA RUTH FORSTON, LORRAINE HOYLE, and a chorus consisting of Sophomore girls. In the annual Basketball Queen election, the class was honored by having JEAN WAR- REN as Sophomore Attendant to the Basket- ball Queen. Before the Sophomores realized it, spring was here. Again they selected the ones they felt qualified to be leaders, who were: President-Cotton Adams. Vice President-Bill Wise. Elizabeth Johnson-Secre'y-Treas. Sponsors-Mrs. Hazel Guttery and Jolly Griggs. During the Commencement Week, the Soph- omores did their part by decorating for Bac- calaureate and Commencement. Thus did they safely complete their Sopho- more year with only a few minor bruises and breakdowns, as evidence of their strenuous and hectic year. Soon school was starting again, the foot- ball season began. This time the class chose as the girl best qualified to represent it, NOR- MA LEE RAPP, Junior Attendant to the Foot ball Queen. Wh-en the Christmas holidays were over, Miss PEGGY LUPER was chosen as Basketball Queen candidate and was attendant to the Basketball Queen at a beautiful coronation. The Junior Class then took pride in pre- senting the first class play of the year, a farce entitled Wedding Spells , by Jam-es F. Stone. It was presented in the high school auditor- ium on March 10, 1942, and proved to be a success. Members of the cast were: BOB ADANS, BOB SMITH, SHIRLEY HADDOCK, JEAN WARREN, BIETTYE CURRIN, YOVENE HORNSBY, BETTY DEATHERAGE, JOHN SCOTT, IDA RAE ERANKEL, JACK COMBS, JOE SMITH and NORMIA LEE IRICK. It was under the direction of MISS DOROTHY SHELDON and MR. JOLLY GRIGGS. At the close of the year a committee was appointed to select a class ring. Those on the committee were: COTTON ADAMS, EIL- EEN KUMLER, SHIRLEY I-IADDOCK, IDA ROBINSON, BILL WISE, LINDSEY PETERS, JEAN WARREN. Members of the Junior Class selected to the Honor Society were: VIOLETTE SAND- ERS, ELIZABETH JOHNSOIN, JOAN M-CCOY, MILDRED WILLIAMS, JEAN WARREN, JOHN SCOTT, IDA FRANKEL, ELIZABETH HOD- GFES, SHIRLEY I-IADDOCK, DOROTHY AR- NOLD, IDA ROBINSON, GERALDINE De- WITT, BETTYE CURRIN, LORRAINE I-IOYLE, VERNA RUTH FORSTON, DOROTHY ANN HIGLEY, MAXINE REAVES, BILL WISE. As 'the final note of the school year, a gala reception was given for the graduating sen- hiors. It was held on Friday night at the Mu- nicipal Auditorium and was highly successful. The receiving line for the guests was com- posed of the class officers, sponsors, MR. and MIRS. BROKAW, Mr. and MRS. BURKS, DR. and MRS. W. M. GAALLAHER, and MR. and MRS. E. M. WARREN. Programs were dis- tributed with clever caricatures of ouistand ing members of the class, and an entertain-
