Shawano 41-Oconto 30 Shawano 41-New London 31 Shawano 3l-Marinette 18 MARCH 9 The Sectional STEVENS POINT After tearing up all available competition in the Shawano Regional, Shawano traveled to Stevens Point to take on a highly efavored Algoma team in the afternoon. At the end of the third quarter Algoma led Shawano 27-22. Then sparked by a spectacular play by Schniggy Scheider, Shawano made the greatest comeback ever witnessed by downhearted fans. The boys roared back into the fray and defeated Algoma 33-29. In the evening we easily de- feated Rhinelandcr 36-27. MARCH 12 ' State MADISON For the fifth time in the last seven years, Shawano headed for the capi- tal city. In the Hrst game Shawano defeated Reedsburg, a fast team, 39-26. This earned for us the right to participate in the championship game. XYe were defeated by Racine Park in the finals 40-23. Out of a possible five firsts, we took three! ln addition we lay claim to two seconds. Dick Cantwell won first in Oratoryg Bob tlresch, First in lfxtemp Speak- ing: Marilyn thaiinson, first in Serious Deelam. Lois Hansen and Alice Cantwell took second honors in Fx- pressive Reading and Humorous Declaination, respectively. The first place winners were eligible for the District Contest which was held in April. N. F. L. Contest The State National Forensic League meet was held again this year at Carroll College. The contestants were up against measles and stiff coinpetititin-they did much better in combattine' the latter. Participating in various lielfls were lildor Blarotz, Robert Ciresch, Dan Naber. Lois Hansen. Klarilyn tihaiinson, Virginia Reetz. and .-Xlice Vantwell. Marilyn won fourth in Dramatic Declamation and came honie with the measles. Virginia placed sixth in Humorous Declaination and Alice took third in the saine field to come home with a banner. Dick tantwell and Galen XYinters were unable to compete due lo last minute ciimplications-you guessed it! Measles. District Contest Cliinaxine the year's forensic work three Shawano winners in the League Contest entered the District Forensic Contest held at East Dt-Pere. Ciontestants received A, B, or C ratings and obtaining such ratings in this particular meet was equivalent to obtaining the same rating in the otherwise usual State meet which was not held this year for obvious reasons.
