Forward The Multifaceted Black In 1969 black people need to be more directed, educated, and employed. In the yvave of a neyy administration in the I.'nited States government that promises to be conservative, there is an urgent need for black ayyareness and determina- tion. Every possibility of stature should be pursued by' the black populace. This is the time that demands the full participation of all black peoples in the arts, sciences, services. and professions. The time for black people to involve them- selves in all these things is noyyg not singularly, but jointly. Noyy is the time for the Multifaceted Black. Shaw University. long a believer in the progression of the black man, is dedicated toyvard the education of men and yvornen. In order that blacks can be prepared for opportunities when they arrive. Here yve hope to develop multi- faceted blacks through an experience in a multifaceted curriculum and envir- onment. The Shaw student is also a firm believer in the progression of the black man, A pride of heritage and the black consciousness that characterizes black colleges across the country is very prevalent at this university. A challenge is noyy before us as a people and as an institution. Shayv has in the past borne the load and it is as true today as it ever was that Shaw yvill continue to accept the challenge. An effort to capture the spirit, the con- sciousness, and the beauty of blackness is made on the following pages. At Shayy yye proudly accept the challenge and seek to give the world the Multi- faceted Black. 2
