CARDINALS Shaw High School 15320 Euclid Ave East Cleveland, Ohio 44112 The Rise Of The Cardinal is found in the United States from the Gulf of Mexico north to New York and west to Iowa. The cardinal is about nine inches long. The male has brilliant red feathers of many shades. It has a black face and neck. The female has brownish-gray plumage with splashes of red. Doth sexes have a high crest of feathers on their head, resembling a crown. Their song is a series of clear whistles. The cardinal has been rhe mascor for Shaw High for a cenrury Over rhis pasr 100 years Shaw has reached many peaks — from football LEL champions and baseball state champs to a girls LEL basketball championship. But recently there have been many seasons of losing reams, followed by bitter disappointments, and little school spirit and pridej The school got older, and rhe students began to feel as if nobody cared Then things began to change Our girts basketball ream became regional chomps, and we hod something to cheer about. The academy building underwent extensive renovations and the tech building was painted We were proud to say we went to Shaw. It's 1981 and rhe Cardinal Will Rise. 2 Above Tonyo Ojmos, HMirer exhibits rhar Cor dr d Spirit! From The Halls Of Ivy . . . Education is: Education is a companion which no misfortune can decrease, no crime destroy, no enemy alienate, no despotism enslave; at home a friend, abroad an intro- duction, in solitude a solace, in society an ornament. It chastens vice, guides virtue, and gives grace and government to genius. Education may cost financial sacrifice and mental pain, but in both money and life values it will repay every cost one hundred fold. 4 TOGETHER Being with friends and family s apy ous fee«ing Ir rums rhe gloom of rhe wond nro a mere shadow and ofren encourages greor accompishmenrs and good feelings unequaled To work ro gerher, ro have fun rogerher, a sense of unify rhar possesses power A Star Is Dorn . . .
