CANTEEN COUNCIL Canteen is chiefly responsible for the special activities at Shaw. The council plans dances, buys records, decorates Korb Center at Christmas time, and furnishes the Lounge inside and out. Canteen is a selective organization. Prospective members submit applications which are screened by a committee. The committee’s selections are then voted on by the entire council, and the winners in each grade are announced on Honor Day. Members attend regular Monday night meetings and work at every dance.

AND SPEECH CLUB While still very new to Shaw, NFL Speech Club, sponsored by Mrs. Greaney, has made great strides toward becoming one of its most active organizations. This past year Speech Club has successfully promoted the first year of Shaw's weekly closed-circuit television show, SHS, TV News. This organization has also served the school by selling programs at the home football games this season. Speech Club hosted for the second year a Greater Cleveland Speech League Tournament at Shaw in the Fall and also sponsored its Second Annual Novice Debate Tournament in February. In December, Speech Club held an induction ceremony for those attaining National Forensic League membership, and the ceremony was successfully combined with a Christmas party. Aside from its many other activities, the club's main function has been the participation of its members in intcrscholastic Speech tournaments held on Saturdays throughout the school year. The members have participated in declamation, oratorical, extemporaneous, and debate contests. SPEECH CLUB—Top Row: N. Harding, R. Walton. T. Liptak. V. Blanco. T. Butler, A. Spikell. B. Howell, G.
