Future Nurses' Club, sponsored by Mrs. Elliott, is dedicated to helping girls who are interested in the career of nursing. The club toured hospitals and engaged speakers to further the education of the members. The main project of the club centered around hospitalized children. Top Row: B. Bythway. B. FUTURE NURSES I For many years Future Teachers of America has made significant contributions to the school and its student life. The paperback book store, which was started this year, has been successful in providing students with books for all types of reading. Proceeds went into a scholarship fund. The club’s major activity of the year was an observation and participation program in elementary schools. The choice of a college is one of the most important decisions a high school student has to make. The function of College Club is to present information to the student so that his choice can be made with more ease. Through lectures by individual college representatives, bus trips to nearby college campuses, and the $50 scholarship program for deserving Shaw graduates, College Club aids many students in taking their first step toward higher education. COLLEGE CLUB Our Lifesaving Club is constantly on the alert for cries of “help.” They devote their after school time to assure all swimmers of a safe evening at the pool. FRIENDSHIP CLUB With the assistance of its new sponsor. Miss McDowell, Friendship Club started another successful year with a Big and Little Sister Party. Other activities included an Avon Cosmetic Show, annual Fall Fashion Show, the Mother-Daughter Banquet, and Christmas service projects.
