No one plans wisely without a goal that he hopes to reach. Thomas Briggs, Professor of Secondary Education of Columbia University, aptly describes the American dream (goal) in words worth remembering. The dream of a people made free by opportunity for everyone to achieve the best that is possible in him, bid then to insure that same differentiated opportunity, whatever it may be, to all others.” Your teachers, during your school careers, have given you a glimpse of the wonderful horizons which lead to the American dream. Your courses and activities at Shaw have revealed the responsibilities and obligations that you must meet if the dream of America is to be fulfilled. You are living in a world of ideas, and the human mind knows no limitation. I urge you, as you stand on the threshold to preserve the best traditions and practices of the past as you build your lives around the good new days which lie ahead. The future belongs to you. Nelson F. Leist Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools ADMINISTRATION
