ADMIINIS T RA T I ON Dr. O. J. Korb Superintendent of schools Nelson F. Leist Assistant to the Superintendent of schools Mr. Kibbel at one of his many jobsg coaching, the basketball team. It is your privilege to stand at the dawn of a new era- man has cracked the atom, and is now on the verge of being able to release the enormous power that has hither- to been latent. This new era will produce achievements the like of which have never been dreamed, it also will create social, economic and political changes. These new conditions demand that we analyze un- familiar situations and develop new opportunities. It also means that if we are to survive as a great peace- loving nation, these new achievements and accomplish- ments must be used for the Good Life. Your own success will be measured by the amount of responsibility you are willing to assume in the days which lie ahead. A I wish you an unfettered start and a clear field in your race of life. 0, J. KW5 TO THE GRADUATES z You, the members of the classes oi J une andjanuary 1955, have enjoyed opportunities in your school- experience never before available to students at Shaw. A strong academic program, traditional at Shaw, has been ex- panded to provide greater opportunities for college preparation. It will well serve the forty-five percent of you who will go to college. About one-fourth of you will enter some phase of business or clerical work. You, too, have been well trained. Most of the remainder of your classes will enter industry or the armed services of our country. The faculty and staff have tried to prepare you also, through your courses of study and the counsel- ling services available to all Shaw students. All of you, regardless of subject matter preparation, have had an improved program of health and physical education, and a variety of intramural athletic activities. The new Shaw gymnasium has helped to make possible a broader and stronger program than any previous gener- ation of Shaw students has known. Driver training and education is meeting the needs of more of our students 4

At the same time the activity interests of students have not been overlooked. The club program offers a wide selection of interest groups. Your Student Council 1nd the Shaw Canteen have helped to make possible a social program which has done much to unify the student Jody to a greater extent than ever before. We all know these things did not happen of them- selves. Someone willed them to happen, then enlisted ihe aid of others to bring about these desirable ends. As Jou leave Shaw, may all of you be motivated to assume four share of the responsibility for maintaining and mproving the opportunities provided in your com- nunity for the education of succeeding generations of students.
