NELSON F. LEIST Assistant Principal Principal of Shaw High School since May 3, 1948, Mr. Wayne C. Blough has enioyed the cooperation he has received from the Shaw faculty and students. This has encouraged him to take the leadership in bringing about changes in the educational program, fac- ulty-student relationships, and the program of student activities. During Mr. Blough's administration the school day has been lengthened, and the classrooms period .increased from forty to titty-five minutes. The longer period pro- vides time for supervised study under the direction of each classroom teacher. There has been an increase in the duties and responsibilities of the Student Council and the individual student. The latest of these is the student supervised study hall initiated in January, l952. New student activities include a program of intramural sports, inter-scholastic cross-country, College Guidance Club, Sophomore-Junior Friendship Club, and the Future Nurses Club. The Card- inals' Nest became a reality with students playing a larger part in planning, equipping and administering its daily recreational pro- gram. Mr. Blough expressed his appreciation to the faculty members and students who have made his stay at Shaw so enioyable. lt has been a wonderful experience. Dr. Korb The Board of Education The building of the new gym, the repair of the heating plant, and the purchase of new chemistry equipment are a few examples of the improvements the Board of Education has planned for Shaw. The board decides what subiects are to be taught, authorizes the purchase of supplies and adopts the budget in addition to many other duties. The main aim of the Board of Education is to teach good citizenship, said 'Dr. O. J. Korb, Superintendent of Schools. Serving as superintendent for the last thirteen years, Dr. Korb is also secretary of the Seven Supes, an organization of the seven superintendents in the Cleveland area and a trustee of his alma mater Kent State University.
