To the Class of 'l948 THESE words I write today have been written before and said times without number during the past year. They are being printed in this chronicle of your career as a Class in order that generations to come may read of your achieve' ment and rejoice that the Class was in the spot at the time. When, last summer, the Directive from the Board of Trustees announced the abolition of the eightyfninefyearfold New Boy system, your reaction was prompt, verbal, and explosive. No one honestly expected it to be otherwise. It was your response, however, that has won for your Class its place among the Shattuck immortals. When you could have been obstructive, you chose inf stead to be cooperative. Where others might have been sul' len and forced upon the Administration the necessity of policing every minute of School life, you demonstrated a maturity and an understanding far beyond your years. What might have been a year of tension, friction, and unhappiness has been, instead, a year of friendliness, philosophical good humor, and fine spirit. Shattuck School is a better school today because you willed it to be. Shattuck's welfare came first, and you will all live to rejoice in the memory of the year when you bef came men. A Sincerely, Ckwald Rector
