I congratulate you on the completion of many worthwhile projects, one of the best of which is the 1950 INDIAN. It is your ticket in years to come for a retum trip to Shattuck High School. With it you will again see the scenes of your school life, remember the faces of your classmates, and recall the activi- ties and fun of 1949-50. May your memories be happy! And just as you tum the pages of your annual and remember with pride the achievements of your school days, so may you look back each year of your future life on other tasks equally well done. To the other students I should like to say that a school is not what the teachers or the community make it, but what the students themselves make it. Remember the school is yours, and it will be no better than what you will make it. My thanks to all of you for your Shattuck Spirit and for your efforts toward learning to be good citizens in our modem worldg to the teachers for their loyalty, cooperation, and hard workg and to the patrons and friends of the school for their interest and support of the total school program. May we all continue to participate in helping to make our school the best possible. Sincerely, W. E. Gourley MR. RALPH THAIN Principal - Mathematics X MISS BERNICE DELAMARTER Commerce MRS. EDNA F. CiClSS POP QCLj Imagine that it is the year 2000 A. D., and come along with us on a visit to the village Pushwater on the planet Pluto. Here you will find the twenty-six graduates of 1950 from S. H. S. As you stroll down the street the first house is the residence of Harry Appel. Harry is now an old man. He has accumulated his wealth by pushing water through the faucets. Velda Butts and Ramona Beagles are the old maids who live in the red brick house fwhich has a bar in the living roomy. They are trying to forget the past. Harry Koch is running his own beer tavem, and The Fuzz bootlegs on the side. Neoma Coffman is riding shotgun on the fast rocket, Squirt , from this planet to earth. Leland Kelln is driving the A B C taxi--falwaysj a fbetterj fcabj. Mollie Ann Deal, who can do anything that Charles Atlas can, is giving floor shows at Fuzz's Beer Tavern. Stanley Weitz is now blowing bubbles for Sally Rand at the famous Weitz's,El Casino Night Club. jean Love is manager of the Wacky Witnits .Love-Sick Sanitorium. She is spending all her spare time with Dutch. Bill Brummett is head football coach of the Wacky Witnits from the Love-Sick Sanitotium. Euleta Fiegel and husband are starring in THE EGG AND I. Eddie jackson and Dorothy Fuller are wrestling instructors at the Fuller-jackson Wrest- ling Academy. Wilba Treiber went to P. U. She majored in leaks and now runs her own radiator shop. George Mason and Digger O'Dell are in business at last in competition with joe D. Green. Donnetia Teter is starring in the Ziegfield Follies in Lower Slobovia. Don Starbuck and Nona Siddens can be seen in the theater doing Romeo and Juliet. Lorene Kelln is the old woman in the shoe. She has so many kids she doesn't know what to do. Archie Manske has a jet john Deere. He can move anything anywhere. Phyllis Bruton can be seen in the leading role of the stage show hit, 'Plumber Girl. Billy Pratt is the banker in Pushwater, and he spends his time rolling in the dough. Marion Ehrlich, who is trying to forget 1950, is helping Fuzz bootleg, but she is drinking up all the profits. Donald Ehrlich, who is running a museum of old relics, is still trying to figure a way to put a jet on his T Bone. Rhodney Ruf, better known to the police as jack , is wanted in Lower Slobovia for terrorizing the town with his fabulous Green Homet. Now that you have completed your visit in Pushwater, the god Pluto waves his invisible wand, and you see these twenty-six seniors marching down the trail toward the new planet, Graduation, which is more fabulous and exciting than the planet Pluto can ever be. 4 2 XV, f 1 W J af' ,nt ,af 49' 4175 Pres 1dent......... .... FOOTBALL SCHEDULE, 1949 Buffalo 6 Shattuck 7 Guym on 25 Shattuck 0 Fairview 6 Shattuck 6 Mooreland 6 Shattuck 26 Waynoka 18 Shattuck 12 Jet 13 Shattuck 19 Alva 31 Shattuck 13 Laverne 27 Shattuck 19 Woodward 12 Shattuck 13 Cherokee O Shattuck 26 Won 5-Lost 4--Tied 1 Shattuck for the first time used the two team system of play. The defensive team was composed mostly of senior boys with more experience, as letter men of previous years. The offensive team was made up mostly of younger boys who will probably make up next year's team. The team got off to a rather slow start, due in part to converting their style of play from the single and double wing back, which they had used for several years, to the Split T style, but improved considerably as the season advanced under the able coach- ing of Coach Mark Hodgson. The defensive team was led by such experienced boys as Capt. Eddie jackson, as fullback, Bill Brummett, end, Don Starbuck and Leland Kelln, tacklesg Harry Koch and jackie Ruf, guardsg with Don Ehrlich and Bill Pratt doing secon- dary work as halfbacks. The defensive team was built around the speed of Jerry McNabb and Elmer Helfenbein at halfbacks and Sonny Malloy at fullback, Bill Jackson at the quarter slot, Charles Swope and Don Holcomb doing a fine job at center, Edd Matthews and Davy Martinez, two small but mighty guards, flanked on either side by the two heavy weight tackles, Don Klein and Dick Caldwell, and the experience of Bill Brummett, J. C. Steadman and Dan Schoenhals at end positions. We had several nice freshmen candidates that will play lots of football before they leave Shattuck. Some of these were Con Angell, Ike Kelln, Don jackson, Don Riffel, along with other squad men including Melvin Schoen- hals. These boys used as cannon fodder last season, will make someone hustle nexrt year. These boys worked hard and gave their all. They are to be congratulated on their season. Barring hard luck, they should make you very proud of their record in the future. FGOTB Ll LETTEIQM If EHRLICH B.
