MR JOHN SPENCER MR. PRICE'S MESSAGE Many able high school students do not continue their formal education because they are anxious to begin gainful employment. ln some cases the need for a per- sonal income is very genuine and worthy. In other cases the need is based upon the desire for an automobile or for ready spending money. Many able young people are leaving school too soon because they are unwilling to accept deferred values. They want their rewards to be immediate. Education does not ordinarily give its rewards in the present, but later-often not until the distant future. One must be willing to work now, and wait for his reward. I would urge the class of '59 not to be satisfied to settle for the status quo or with what the present may have to offer. The lessons of history clearly indicate that there has always been an imperative need for well- educated men and women with talent and imagination. Conformity has its place, but it can be a dangerous seda- tive to an able young person living in a dynamic so- ciety. How the future is to reward us depends very much on what we do during the years when schooling is easily available. We need always to keep in mind I-Ienley's lines from Invictus : It matters not how straight the gate. How charged with punishment scroll: I am the master of my fate, l am the captain of my soul. PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Every aspect of our life today has been affected by the tremendous technological advancement of the 20th Cen- tury. This is particularly important in such areas as food, housing, medicine, transportation, communications, and education. I think it is of particular interest to note that a large percentage of these advances have come since You, the members of the class of l959, were bornAl6, l7, or l8 years ago. With the many advantages of this technical age, more training is needed for almost any job or position than just a few years ago. The new horizon which you now face includes either continuing your formal education in preparation for your choice of life Work or entering the working world immediately upon graduation. Which- reaching the goals you have set, and rememb r ays to be the type of person of whi y . X ever way you choose, may you work hard to ds ATTENDANCE CJFFICE Supervising the attendance office is the ever-pat Mr. Donald Marvin and the ever-pleasant Mrs. B Prince. Also working in the attendance office are students. These students help the officers in taking of the 1154 students at Shasta. Aiding the teachers, counselors, and parents is Grace Warrnoth who gives intelligence tests to stud BOARD OF ' TRUSTEES The exceedingly difficult job of gov- erning Shasta High and the other schools of the district falls on the board of trustees, who give unselfishly of their time helping to make Shasta High a better school.
