SEIIIOR STOIW On Sepfember 8, I953, five hundred and fwenfy-five enfhusiasfic buf fimid freshmen began four long awaifed years af Shasfa. Wifh four years of challenging work ahead 'we knew fhaf we had fo work in order fo enjoy fhem fo 'rheir fullesf. Eager fo gef info fhe swing of campus life, we decided fo sponsor a founfain proiecf in fronf of fhe shop building. This was our way of leaving somefhing behind affer we had gone. Led by class presidenfs Cliff Todd and Roger Cowling, fhe class proiecf began fo flourish along wifh all ofher proiecfs fhaf we underfook. Our freshman class was very acfive in all sporfs wifh approximafely six boys receiving iunior varsify foofball and B baskefball leffers. Shasfa's freshman class of '53 proved fo be unusually acfive in sfudenf affairs. Our sophomore year found us wifh a considerably smaller class since almosf half of our class had fransferred fo Enferprise High School. We were now fhe smallesf class insfead of fhe largesf. Under fhe leadership of Fred Hayes and Rex Clark fhe sophomore class sponsored fhe Baskefball l-lop. We were sfill going sfrong on fhe founfain proiecf and many of us became acfive in Building and Grounds. lf proved fo be a very enfhu- siasfic year wifh fwo more of fhe sa me fo follow. Our iunior rings shining, we af lasf held fhe awaifed fifle of Upperclassmen. Our class presidenfs Dale Odell and Bob Brewer led our class in a very successful year. Three of our classmafes, Rex Clark, Turney Moore, and Lyle Laffranchini, held sfudenf body offices. Due fo fhe lack of money fo confinue on fhe founfain proiecf, we sponsored fhe firsfJunior-Senior Girls' Foofball Game, neffing almosf fwo hundred dollars. This money. along wifh large confribufions from fhe freshman and sophomore classes, was puf fo work immediafely. The annual Junior Prom, revolving around fhe fherne April in Paris was well received by everyone. Seniors af lasf, we were af fhe heighf of our glory awaifing graduafion. Dale Odell and Rex Clark were elecfed fo hold fhe office of sfudenf body presidenf in our lasf year. Many ofher members of our class held sfudenf body offices and a large number of boys won afhlefic awards. We af lasf had our long awaifed foofball game wifh Enferprise which broughf an end fo high school foofball for seven senior boys. Led by Frank l-lawkey and Sheila Mclfnaney, we glided fhrough our lasf year wifh flying colors. The climax of fhis year was fhe Acker Tournamenf which is fhe fheme of fhis book. We feel very proud fo have been one of fhe classes fo have seen fwo Acker Tournamenfs here. Our senior year ended as fhey all end, wifh graduafion and fhe Senior Ball. This is our sfory.
