PRIIICIPHL In SepTember l953, you, The class oT I957. enTered ShasTa Union High School as freshmen. AT ThaT Time you looked Torward To The day you would graduaTe as a goal in The TuTure. buT you hardly realized The Time would ever come. Now aT The end oT This school year you can look back on your years spenT aT high school wiTh many Tond memories. IT you, The members oT The class of '57 now as young men and women. could compare yourselves wiTh The boys and girls you were on your enTering day oT high school Tour years ago, you would see The Tremendous changes ThaT have Taken place in you as individuals. noT only in physical sTaTure buT in menTal and psychological develop- menT. Some of you have worked harder Than oThers and have. ThereTore, achieved more. You have compleTed one phase of your formal educaTion and now musT decide wheTher To conTinue wiTh addiTional educaTion or sTarT To make your living in The world. WhaTever your decision may be, your goal is To a large exTenT in your hands: and how Tar you go, will be decided by your desire To succeed. UICE-PRIIIGIPIIL A vice-principal can ill aTTord To nap on The iob. Some of The disciplinary duTies aTTached To This oTFice in a school The size of our own ShasTa High admiTTedly are noT The mosT enioyable. l-lowever, The iTems on The righT side oT The ledger Tar ouTweigh any negaTive aspecTs. Day-by-day direcT conTacT wiTh our Tine TaculTy and energeTic sTudenT body resulTs in a more Tirm convicTion in The brighT TuTure oT our school, our communiTy, and our counTry. This year has seen a sTrengThening of sTudenT govern- menT Through The eTlecTive TuncTioning of our STudenT Council and added eTFecTiveness of our STudenT Judiciary commiTTee. To you who are graduaTing, we wish you luck, wherever you go and whaTever you do. We. who will be back nexT year, will conTinue To build and sTrengThen our class sTudies. our sTudenT body governmenT and acTiviTies so ThaT we all will have cause To hold our heads high when we say ShasTa is our school. JOHN SPENCER Vice-Principal ATTEIIDIIIIGE UFFIGER AT ShasTa High-our aTTendance regulaTions are based on The philosophy ThaT good aTTendance is essenTial To school success. This, we Teel, is True from several sTandpoinTs. FirsT-l-lighesT scholasTic achievemenT on The parT of The sTudenT can be obTained when he is in class and doing assigned work. Second -Businesslike class procedure is possible in The areas of assignmenT, discussion, lecTure, and TesTing Tor progress when all sTudenTs are presenT Tor parTicipaTions. SUPERIHTEHDEHT Two oT The sTudenT body oTTicers oT ShasTa, when asked To give Their concepTion oT school spiriT. replied: Tal School spiriT is The inTanqible union beTween sTudenTs, TaculTy, and school and exisTs only Tor The beneTiT oT The school. lbl School spiriT is infangible, buT you Teel iT abouT you. IT is a peppy school rally wiTh everybody Taking parT, wifh The concluding Alma MaTer sung in a loyal aTmos- phere. To These deTiniTions, l should like To add an observaTion which in my esTimaTion reTlecTs a high qualiTy oT school spiriT aT ShasTa High. Over The years, l have seen The campus TransTormed Trom a liTTered, unsighTly. slum-looking area To a neaT, well-kepT School, looking somewhaT like a park. This TransTormaTion has been broughT abouT by sTudenTs, wiTh The aid oT TaculTy members. This is one of The worThy proiecTs underTaken by The sTudenT body which reTlecTs a high level oT pupil responsibiliTy. The Keep IT Clean campaign has noT had a Tull IOO per cenT response by all The ciTizens oT The school communiTy, buT The resulTs, as a whole, have been remarkably saTis- TacTory. To me, This indicaTes a high qualiTy of school spiriT. IT shows ThaT sTudenTs aT ShasTa High are proud To belong To The school and are willing To cooperaTe in a worThy enTerprise. IT reTlecTs an aTTiTude oT friendliness and cooperaTion, conTrasTed wiTh an aTTiTude OT indiTTer- ence and anTagonism. IT is The very essence oT good school spiriT. a qualiTy in which every loyal ShasTan mighT well Take pride. JACKSON PRICE Superinhndenf BUHRD UF TRUSTEES LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Jackson Price, Mr. Ed Frisbie, Mr. Sid Bowler, Mr. Dudley Saelher, Mr. Russell Thompson, Mr. C. W. MeCIung, and Mr. David Marr. The governing Board oT TrusTees oT The ShasTa Union High School DisTricT and Junior College consisTs oT Tive members who willingly give oT Their Time and experience To TormulaTe The policy charT and The TuTure oT The Tour schools in our disTricT. ForTunaTe indeed are The nearly Three Thousand sTudenTs who aTTend our Three high schools and college and The residenTs oT our disTricTs who are called upon To supporT These insTi- TuTions. AlThough This group asks Tor no reward, They do appreciaTe The supporf given Them by The sTudenTs and parenTs in every elecTion and school acTiviTy.
