We have endeav- ored To give you a picTorial review oT This school year by presenTing picTures oT dances. assemblies, rallies, and classes ThaT you have shared wiTh your Triends. This pasT year had many memorable evenTs, buT perhaps The greaTesT was hosTing The Aclcer TournamenT oT l957. When we ThoughT oT The spiriT in which This TournamenT is always surrounded, we all immediaTely agreed This was The one and only Theme Tor our boolc. Perhaps The Senior Class can realize The Tull meaning connecTed wiTh The Aclcer TournamenT. Tor The Class oT '57 had The privilege oT having The TournamenT aT ShasTa when They were Treshmen. And now ThaT The whole sTudenT body has had The chance To see The TournamenT and all ThaT iT enTails, we can agree ThaT The spiriT and sporTsmanship expressed aT This aTTair are unprecedenTed. lT means Three Tull days oT good baslceTball. BUT, as iT ThaT wasn'T enough, iT means more Tor everyone. For The players iT means sharing The group meals each nighT aTTer The games, The banqueT held in Their honor, and an assembly in which each school is represenTecl. They share housing, and besT oT all They are given The chance To show The sporTsmanship which is always an ouTsTanding TeaTure oT The Aclcer TournamenT. For The sTudenTs iT means making new Triends Trom all The represenTed schools. They all share in The exciTemenT oT The games and The anxieTy oT The lasT nighT oT The TournamenT. Everyone represenTs his school and upholds and malces lcnown his schools good repuTa- Tion. A Truly Triendly spiriT prevails. 'K SEIIIOR STOIW On Sepfember 8, I953, five hundred and fwenfy-five enfhusiasfic buf fimid freshmen began four long awaifed years af Shasfa. Wifh four years of challenging work ahead 'we knew fhaf we had fo work in order fo enjoy fhem fo 'rheir fullesf. Our freshman class was very acfive in all sporfs wifh approximafely six boys receiving iunior varsify foofball and B baskefball leffers. Shasfa's freshman class of '53 proved fo be unusually acfive in sfudenf affairs. Our sophomore year found us wifh a considerably smaller class since almosf half of our class had fransferred fo Enferprise High School. We were now fhe smallesf class insfead of fhe largesf. Under fhe leadership of Fred Hayes and Rex Clark fhe sophomore class sponsored fhe Baskefball l-lop. We were sfill going sfrong on fhe founfain proiecf and many of us became acfive in Building and Grounds. lf proved fo be a very enfhu- siasfic year wifh fwo more of fhe sa me fo follow. Our iunior rings shining, we af lasf held fhe awaifed fifle of Upperclassmen. Our class presidenfs Dale Odell and Bob Brewer led our class in a very successful year. Three of our classmafes, Rex Clark, Turney Moore, and Lyle Laffranchini, held sfudenf body offices. Due fo fhe lack of money fo confinue on fhe founfain proiecf, we sponsored fhe firsfJunior-Senior Girls' Foofball Game, neffing almosf fwo hundred dollars. This money. along wifh large confribufions from fhe freshman and sophomore classes, was puf fo work immediafely. The annual Junior Prom, revolving around fhe fherne April in Paris was well received by everyone. Seniors af lasf, we were af fhe heighf of our glory awaifing graduafion. Dale Odell and Rex Clark were elecfed fo hold fhe office of sfudenf body presidenf in our lasf year. Many ofher members of our class held sfudenf body offices and a large number of boys won afhlefic awards. We af lasf had our long awaifed foofball game wifh Enferprise which broughf an end fo high school foofball for seven senior boys. Led by Frank l-lawkey and Sheila Mclfnaney, we glided fhrough our lasf year wifh flying colors. The climax of fhis year was fhe Acker Tournamenf which is fhe fheme of fhis book. We feel very proud fo have been one of fhe classes fo have seen fwo Acker Tournamenfs here. Our senior year ended as fhey all end, wifh graduafion and fhe Senior Ball. This is our sfory.
