THE SENIOR STORY . ICONTINUEDI Many iunior gridiron perTormers made Their leT+ers in varsiTy TOoTball in The I948 season: They helped The varsiTy greaTly in winning iTs second Big Six championship in a row. BOB HARRIS was The sTar cenTer OT The A baskeTball Team, and several oTher iuniors Tound berThs on The A and B Teams. ThirTeen iunior girls belonged To The Circle S ThaT year. The Tour Boys' STaTe delegaTes Trom ShasTa in I949 came Trom The Class OT '50. GENE DAlS, FRANK DAVIS, JOHN GILMORE, and RAY SWARTS wenT To The Sacra- menTo ConvenTiOn during The summer. Thus we wound up a very evenTTul year as iuniors, and leTT ShasTa Tor The nexT Three monThs, some OT us To work, some OT us To relax and Travel, all OT us To Think abOuT Our Triumphal re-enTry inTO The corridors OT Redding's chieT insTiTuTiOn OT learning. All Too soon we Tound ThaT Those Three monThs had ioined The March OT Time and were over. We were now members OT ThaT class in The school wiTh The richesT background OT experience-seniors aT lasTl This year eighT OT The nine sTudenT body OTTices were aT some Time Tilled by seniors. The TirsT semesTer RAY SWARTS, presidenT: LARRY WADE, vice-presidenT: FRANK DAVIS, boys' Tax collecTOr: KAY MYERS, girls' Tax cOllecTor: PAT BOYD, TOoTball yell leader: and NANCY HOOVER, sTudenT council secreTary, came Trom The Class OT '50. JIM MOORE, presidenT: JOHN BLALOCK, vice-presidenT: NANCY HOOVER, sTu- denT, body secreTary: and JANICE VAN BLOKLAND, sTudenT council secreTary were sTudenT body oTTicers Trom our class The second semesTer. TO lead us Through The TirsT halT OT Our biggesT year we chose JIM MOORE as presidenT. He was ably assisTed by PAT CLELAND, vice-presidenT: ANONA MON- ROE, secreTary: HELEN FILES and RENEE BROUILLARD, yell leaders: BARBARA BRAGDON, sTudenT council represenTaTive: and CHARLINE FURLONG. Treasurer. BUD MICHAEL Took over The gavel as our second semesTer presidenT wiTh ANONA MONROE as vice-presidenT: BETTY WHITELY as secreTary: LAVERNE SPEARS and MIKE MORGAN as yell leaders: LARRY WADE as Treasurer: and JOHN GILMORE as sTudenT council represenTaTive. ' We produced a Tine varsiTy TooTball Team This year which won The Big Five championship. Our A baskefball Team was very aggressive and really TOughT hard, buT was unable To win The championship. GENE DAIS Tied The record Tor The mosT poinTs scored in one game aT The ShasTa gymnasium by equalling Jim PadgeTT's TwenTy- seven poinTs scored Two years ago. GENE DAIS was co-chairman OT The PublicaTion Forum Tor The l95O STudenT Leaders' Conference. JlM MOORE and KAY MYERS also aTTended This conTerence. Five seniors obTained parTs in The school play, One Mad NighT, which had DON BIRMINGHAM and HELEN FILES in The leading roles. BARBARA LEACH and BUD MICHAEL were The sTars OT The seziior play, CaughT in The ViIIain's Web, which was very successTul. PAT BOYD, REN EE BROUTLLARD, BOB DANIELS, RAYMOND KASSIS, STANLEY KYES, SHIRLEY MARR, SAMETTA SUTTON, and JANICE VAN BLOKLAND were in The supporTing casT. Our class was very well represenTed again in The C.S.F. This year, surpassing all oTher classes in membership. GENE DAIS, ANNE ELDER, JOHN GILMORE, and RAY SWARTS received liTe membership pins. As The end OT This school year drew nearer, however, The ThoughT OT graduaTion OTTen occupied our minds. For some OT us, iT would mean a mere inTerim beTore we again would cOnTinue our educaTiOn. For mosT OT us iT would mean The respOnsibiliTy OT geTTing a iob and becoming a useTuI member OT socieTy. For all OT The class OT '50, iT would mean deparTing Trom a school which, Through The inTluence OT iTs TaculTy and sTudenT body, had helped To shape The personaIiTies OT iTs sTudenTs Tor Tour years OT Their mosT rapid physical and menTal develOpmenT. For mosT OT us iT would represenT The achievemenT OT a goal which had Taken considerable work. When The big nighT was Over, and The caps and gowns were laid away, The mulTiTude OT experiences aT ShasTa, some happy, some sad, will never be compleTely TOrgOTTen. FurThermore, we will look back wiTh nosTalgic pride and senTimenT on The high school which aTTOrded us so many splendid OppOrTuniTies To become worThwhile ciTizens OT a demOcraTic socieTy.
