THE SENIOR STORY One fafeful day in Sepfember, I946, a large group of young and vigorous sfudenfs sfepped info fhe halls of Shasfa High fo regisfer. Those sfudenfs, being of individualisfic personalifies of almosf every fype, were slafed fo be members of fhe Class of I95O. Lel' us follow fheir progress as fhey go fhrough fheir four years of academic life. As presidenl' for fhe firsf semesfer, 'rhey chose RAY SWARTS, wifh DAVE WONG as fhe spare fire. ANNE ELDER as secrefary, ELINOR FLYG as freasurer, and JIM BURROWS and RICK JAEGLER as yell leaders made up fhe resf of fhe official sfaff. MIKE MORGAN was elecfed prexy fhe firsf half of l947. BUD MICHAEL, vice- presidenf: RENEE BROUILLARD, secrefary: JANICE VAN BLOKLAND, freasurer, Znd ELINOR and MARJORIE FLYG, yell leaders, carried ouf fhe ofher adminisfrafive ufies. This freshman class accomplished a lof in afhlefics. The firsf sfring of a champion- ship and undefeafed C feam was composed of freshmen. Three freshmen were also on fhe championship D feam. BOB HARRIS leffered on fhe B feam. Ten fresh- men made fhe Junior Varsify foofball squad, and fwo of 'rhem leffered. Abouf fiffeen boys made fhe 'rraclx squad. and fhree made fhe baseball feam. The drill feam was almosf enfirely composed of freshmen. The Fresh Refurn was a very successful dance, and fhe profif from if made up fhe firsf money fhaf wenf info our freasury. In ofher fields of acfivify equally impor- fanf fhe class also did a greaf deal fhal' year. For one fhino in I947 several delegafes fo sfudem' conferences came from fhe class of '5O. MIKE MORGAN wenf fo fhe Redwood Cify Conference: JIM BURROWS and MIKE MORGAN affended fhe meefing of fhe Associafion of Sfudenf Councils. Over one-fhird of fhe C.S.F. mem- bers in fhe firsf half of I947 were freshmen. The school year drew fo a close, and when fhe monfhs of summer vacafion had sped by. we had progressed fo fhe more mafure sfafus of sophomores. Our groups of officers for 'rhis year were BUD MICHAEL and RAY SWARTS, presidenfs: DAVE WONG and GENE DAIS, vice-presidenfsr BARBARA BRAGDON and GEORGIA ROSS, secrefaries: VICKY ROGERS and NANCY HOOVER, freas- urers: DARLENE CLARK and PAT BOYD, and RENEE BROUILLARD and VICKY ROGERS, yell leaders: and ANNE ELDER and JULIUS BEDYNEK, sfudenl' council represenfafives. Nafurally, our afhlefes accomplished much more fhis year. Fiffeen members of 'I'he Block S were from fhe Class of '5O. The J.V. foofball feam was composed primarily of sophomores. Four of 'rhe five firsf sfrinoers on fhe championship B feam were sophomores. Five girls earned fheir Circle S. GENE DAIS won fhe Kniohfs of Pyfhias oraforical confesf. Three sophomores were in fhe school play casf. RAYMOND KASSIS, BUD MICHAEL and JANICE VAN BLOKLAND all had parfs in Birds of a Feafher. JULIUS BEDYNEK and RAY SWARTS were among fhe delegafes fo fhe Associ- afion of Sfudenf Councils. JULIUS also wenf fo fhe Sfudenf Council Convenfion. Advancing infellecfually and socially, we passed fhe granife milesfone which marlcs fhe dividing line befween fhe upper and lowerclassmen. As iuniors we chose LARRY WADE and JULIUS BEDYNEK for our leaders. CHARLES MILLS and KAY MYERS were our vice-presidenfs: NANCY HOOVER and JANICE VAN BLOKLAND, our secrefaries: and JOHN BLALOCK and TERRY GILZEANI, our freasurers. BUD MICHAEL and JACKIE NOLAN lad our yells 'rhe firsf semesfer: MIKE MORGAN and LAVERNE SPEARS handled fhaf iob fhe second semes- fer. ANONA MONROE and LARRY WADE were our sfudenf council represenfafives. Three of our number were elecfed fo sfudenf body offices fhis year. RAY SWARTS and GENE DAIS were fhe sfudenf council secrefaries, while BUD MICHAEL was baslcefball yell leader. Af fhe I949 Sfudenf Leaders' Conference in Chico, PAT BOYD, JULIUS BEDY- NEK, GENE DAIS, BUD MICHAEL, KAY MYERS, VICKIE ROGERS, RAY SWARTS, and DAVE WONG were delegafes from our class. GENE DAIS and RAY SWARTS also affended a sfudenfs' model Iegislafure in Sacramenfo, sponsored by 'Ihe Hi-Y and fhe Sfafe Legislafure. RICHARD JAEGLER won fhe Shakespearean confesf sponsored by fhe Masque and Dagger Club. The brainiesf members of our class were nine in number fhe firsf semesfer and fiffeen Ihe second. GENE DAIS was presidenf of fhe C.S.F. fhe fall of I948.
