THE FCDRTY-NINERS STCDRY Well, at last weve reached the long sought after goaleeeafter four memorable years' -long when we think of the homework and exams, yet short when we remember the good times we had: years that will prove to be the most valuable in our lives because during those years we grew from childhood to adulthood, from bashful, giggling freshmen to all-powerful seniors, but that's getting ahead of the story. Four years ago we the class of fortf nine entered tne halls of Shasta High Maybe lv didnt look ltke much then lust a bunch of scared little kids But underneath we had the courage and the nerve it took to live up to our name the forty niners Like those hardy pioneers who had to break trails across an unexplored nation we too had a new territory to explore new worlds to con quer After the first few weeks those who had survived initiation ceremonies and the Freshman Reception settled down to adapting themselves to an entirely new type of school l1fe We first distinguished ourselves by electing as our f1rs semester officers five very capable students lohn Kincaid president Henry Duggins vice president MerleneBurm1ngham secretary lack Lamplough treas urer Corrine Swarts yell leader These students saw us through the first lap of our Journey Our main event of the year was the Fro h Return which was a big success as far as we were concerned Qur second semester officers were lerry lefcoat presldent Gary Elmslie vice president Diane Yank secretary lack Ures treasurer and Annette Hayball yell leader We were well represented in all school activities Thus ended our first year and we looked forward to scaling new heights in the years to come Our sophomore year found us looking scornfully down on the lowly fresh men We initiated them and believe y u me we did a good Job of it We started the year off right by electing Frank McFnaney presrdent Henry Duggins vice president Carol McArthur secretary lim Williams treasurer and Helen Fla ltarty and Frankie Burke yell leaders These officers w re succeeded by Terry McKinney president Larry Anderson v1cepres1dent Frankie Madrid secretary D tn Heyler tr asurer and for the second tim Helen Flahartv and Frankie Burke ts yell leaders ree f enrers found stud rt ody offic s Frank M Fnanef secr t try frank Ur s tax ccllec or and ler y lefcoat treasur r Ne w Ie v ry Nell represented in sports Dave spears was n h varsity arn in fo t all and fi boys made the A t am in ha kethall Terry M Kin e a tn ead tl school play as eiry ld h that 'Xfany bers ex elled to asttc a ent and n opno rsor c a comp tsed a drge ar nd for th second t n e 1 er aware t 1 J ar Nel spe . , .
