THE CREW lllith the end of the war SH.-XST.-Xls mission, operations, and future all changed drastically. lt is appropriate hc-fore continuing with the Odyssey to step hack and examine the crew. Vkho were the men of SHASTA? What did the men look like that proved to he so adaptable to new situations, so ahle to change? .-X ship is inert. lifeless. of no particular use without a crew. The crew is the ship. .-Xny reputation. any plaudits or kudos which SHASTA attained were the result of many. small. individual efforts. SH.-XSTA did receive many compliments during her voyage, and these compliments were justly paid to the men pictured in the following pages. The crew of the SHASTA is not paraded in full dress uniform, they are not lined up for an inspection. A sailor spends 909 of his time working. and the SHASTA sailors are pietured in the actual spaces where they worked. It is only right.
