Domeshc Sclence The Domestlc SCIENCE Department of the Sharpsyllle Hlgh School IS of great value and has been for the past seven vears One half of the vear IS glven over to cookmg and the other half to seyylng The cooklng class not only learns the art of slmple cooklng but they learn how to comblne dlfferent vegetables ln order to pro duce the best food value posslble Th1s course also lncludes the dlgestlon of toods a study of Food Value that IS contamed 1n the foods Bread Judging Household Man agement Home Decoratlons and Economy The class of thls year conslstlng of eleven glrl made a notebook d6SlgI'l1Ilg and furn xshmg a home wlth total expendltures Last year the Domestlc Sclence Class prepared a meal each noon for thre months to a few sele ted Ch1lClI'9'1 yvho yvere un ler Manual Xlanual Trammg was first lntroduced IH 1912 On account of lack ot room a partltlon was bullt across the basement thus makmg a small room ln yyhlch the class met I 1917 the addltlon was added to the large1 blllldlllg The Nlanual Trammg was then es tabllshed 1n thlg new addxtlon A neyv sup ply of tools was obtalned and the class IS noyy prepared to take cale of almost any kmd ot work Last year a lathe machme yy as placed ln the Nlanual Trammg room f01 advance yvork A fine advanced course w as gly en ln whxch Electrlc Lamps Taborets NIorr1s Chalrs LILISIC Cases and other very valuable DIQCQS of furnlture were made The Manual Trammg students yy ere gly en a course of mechanlcal drayv 1ng yy h1ch welght Vlllk yvas the prlnclpal food of the menu Each chlld was yvelghed every two weeks and at the end of three months al most every ch1ld was up to the standard 1n welght Thls experlence not only prov ed to be beneficlal to chlldren but to the glrls yv ho prepared the meals for lt gave them practlce ln plannlng the meals and select1ng food sult able for chxldren The Sewlng Class last Vear and th1s year have made some very neat and useful garments Th1s course lncludes Manufact ur1ng of Materlal Dress Des1gn1ng Pattern Study and the u e of dlfferent klnds of seams and StltCh9S At the end of the school term a Manual CXhlblt IS held Last year we had the honor of havmg on Gflhlblt the Sewmg that won the State PYIZG Ruth Spauldlng Treumnq helped them very much 1n readmg plans and drayymg The students have been carry mg out the same plan thls year by maklng artlcles that ale well worth thelr time Instead of m1no1 thmgs that do not 1equ1re so much careful yy o1kmansh1p It has been the custom of the classes to have an art exhlblt at the close of the school so that the publlc mlght see the yy ork of that past year All grades enter the1r yy ork 1nto th1s exh1b1t thus creating more mterest and competxtlon 1n the work Thxs year the Manual Trammg boy s hay e made llbrary tables morrls chalrs office desks etc for thelr eyih1b1t yy h1ch IS gomg to be held on the last day of school Page Hfty nme O I , V v . y - Y . - . . , .
