M - H ' f FAREWELL SE 10115 Asl write my farewell message to the Seniors of Sharpsville Joint Schools I think it might be just as ap- propriate to say Hello and greet you as young Ameri- can Citizens. You have gone to school now for twelve years and although you have not won all your battles, both physically and mentally, I hope you can all say I fought them fairly. If you have gained that one prin- ciple your future life will be better and our nation will be vastly improved by its use. As you leave the doors of your school you should know that in life you will not win all your battles. Fight them fairly and take defeat with a graceful smile as well as a victory with humility. I sincerely hope and believe that the knowledge and training you received, the virtues and attitudes you de- veloped, and the excellent guidance you were given in all fields will bolster your self confidence and courage to meet the challenge of the future. In years to come as you look again through this book I hope it will bring back a storehouse of pleasant mem- ories and associations. To some of you it will also bring back pleasant memories of hard work. It is only when we look at work in the future does it appear distasteful, after it is over it leaves a wonderful feeling of ac- complishment. To all of you as Young Americans I want to extend my hand in friendship and fellowship. May all of your futures be bright and promising. Sincerely, Edwin J. Flegal Superintendent To you seniors who are about to graduate I would like to extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes for your happiness and success in the future. You have worked and waited to achieve the status of high school graduates. Your parents have sacrificed much in time, worry and money to bring you to the point of graduation. Your teachers have worked hard to instill in you good living habits, punctuality and dependability as well as attempting to pass on to you knowledge that will benefit you as adults. These many contributions by you, your parents and your teachers are the necessary ingredients of our Ameri- can educational system. You, the individual, are the product of this system. It is you and your actions which will determine whether or not this system of education is doing the job. Wit.h our world torn and confused by the many con- flicting ideologies of government and life, we are de- pending on our American youth to enter into adult life to accept and overcome all challenges. Upon you and others like you, throughout the nation, we are placing our entire hope and faith in the future of our country. I challenge you, to go forward to meet the responsi- bilities and tests that lie ahead, and may you come through undaunted and with heads held high. Good luck, Charles E. Robins

1 l 5 r 2 no 14 Junior High Principal Anita Alderman Understanding, wisdom, and a love for her work are just a few of the qualities which have aided Miss Anita Alderman in her duties as Junior High Principal and Junior High English teacher. She has acquired this wisdom and understanding from the many years of experience she has had in the teaching field. Many students have passed through her classroom and have come away richer in the knowledge which they gained from Miss Alderman. Girls' Guidance Miss Rozella Heilman In taking up her position as Dean of Girls in September, 1958, Miss Rozella I-leilman not only lessened the tremendous amount of work to be done by Mr. John Mattern, pre- viously counselor for both boys and girls, but also fulfilled an ambition to be a guid- ance counselor. She has had a successful year in performing her duties, interviewing each senior girl, aiding and advising them with their choice of a career, serving as a confidant for personal problems and being a true and faithful friend to each one as well. Boys' Guidance Mr. John Mattern Since Mr. John Mattern, Dean of Boys has had several years experience in counseling young people, he is able to discern many of the problems of youth. By giving various aptitude tests, he andMiss I-leilman are able to acquire a very informative file on each student, thereby enabling them to help each with his own individual problems. Inter- viewing each senior boy and aiding any other student who comes to him, is just a small amount of the work he does each year. 16
