Our fund of knowledge was pathetically meagre, and any talents that we might have had were as yet undiscovered. Our main social event this year was a Christmas party to which everyone contrihutecl his or her share of fun. The hoys surprisecl the girls very much hy proving that they were not as loashful as the girls thought them to he. Another activity of the year was a hilce to Guyasuta. Our presiclent for our illirst year was Donald Celencler: Vice-Presiclent, Joseph Rocco: Secre- tary, Carmella Brunag Treasurer, Lawrence Law: Class Aclvisor, Miss lVlcGarry. Donald Celen- cler was to continue as our class president for four years. A 0111 OTE ClElSS. t the encl ol this year we surprised ourselves ancl our teachers hy passing into the Soph- Now sophomores. we seemed to explocle alter heing in usolitary confinement all of our freshman year. It toolc the comhinecl efforts of our principal ancl teachers, along with the juniors and honorahle seniors to put us in our places. As time went on our studies hecame more cliliiicult and we founcl we had to clevote more ol our time to our homeworlc. Gur social events for this year were just as wonclerlul ancl successful as the previous year, only now the hoys were claim- ing that the girls were heing hashful. The laoys tool: charge of preparing the refreshments lor one of our sophomore parties to maize certain there woulcl he plenty to eat. As might he expectecl, they forgot to huy any meat for the sandwiches. This certainly was a loig oversight as most of the hoys came to our class parties just to eat. However, the resourceful Ronald Gaughan came to our rescue hy passing out a lew clozen sanclwiches macle with paper naplcins in place of meat he- tween two slices ol hreacl. This year our hoys not only loolt heroes' parts in a successful footloall season, hut formed the hull: ol the hasltethall squacl. Our thircl year at Sharpshurg High was another very happy one. We hecame very aclept at skipping classes, playing hoolcey and giving lar-letchecl excuses for not having our homeworlc hnishecl. However, Detention Hall was our late ancl we macle up all this work and time hy serv- ing for quite a few nights. This year we presented, HA Ready lVlacle Familyn, as our Junior Class Play. This year, also, our heautilul Athletic Field was cleclicated. l must not forget that this was the year we orclerecl our class rings-a most important event in the lile ol: every junior. AND NONV, OUR SENIOR YEAR! The past lour years have wrought an almost miraculous change. We have become sell conficlent insteacl of sell conscious. Wliere once we stumbled we now walk with poise and grace. Our rnincls have heen enriched with a vast store ol Latin verhs ancl mathematical formulae. Many of us have clevelopecl hrawn ancl slcill on the athletic lielcl ancl court, while others have hc- come masters ol oratory and the drama. Our senior class play was clirectecl loy lVlr. James J. Cullinane ancl was quite a hit. The Hclress-upn Halloweien Dance was a lot of lun-with the senior hoys supplying most ol the lun. Vve will wincl up our social activities lor the year with our Prom which will he helol at the Pines on Nlay llth. It is with some reluctance that we close the chapter on our high school days, for the years we have passed here are lull ol pleasant memories. Yes, this year has proven to be a lxanner year, as we of Sliarpsluurg Higli can now looast of our own band. Under tlie direction of Nlr. J. C. Qver 100 students registered lor instrumental music instruction during the early days ol Qctoloer, and the student body and faculty were both pleasantly surprised and amazed to see and lwear a 42-piece loand perform for the Christmas Assembly. A program of Carols, Hymns and Nlarclies was well received. For tlie 'First time in tlie liistory ol tlwe scliool, too, we, as seniors, will marcln to tlie stage to tlie strains ol our own liand on graduation night. In Iceeping with the plan Ior developing a music department which could compare with music departments ol other, much larger schools, Chorus was con- sidered a regular part ol the Curriculum, meeting every day for a full period. This enabled the group to participate in more assembly worlc, and at the same time afforded its IHCITIIDCTS the opportunity to better understand and appreciate choral music. The student body Iirst heard the Iilty-two voice chorus at our Christmas Assembly: then, at a patriotic assembly in February, at the Easter Assembly, Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises. Judging from the enthusiasm and compIiInents received ot the entire student body and Iaculty, it can be determined that this has been a successful year lor the chorus.
