Sharon Springs Central School 1986 Clarion Dedication Mr. Gary McClure We the class of 1986 would like to extend our sincere gratitude and best wishes to Mr. Gary McClure. Mr. McClure has been our advisor for all of our years in high school. He has led our class through many sub suppers, dinners and various sale campaigns. Although he could never help with color-coordination, he did help each of us on an individual level in addition to class assistance. We all knew if we had a problem he'd be there for us. So it is with great respect and love that we dedicate the 1986 yearbook to our advisor and friend, Mr. Gary McClure. With Love, The Class of '86 2 The class of 1986 would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Karen Brueck. We practically had to beg Mrs. Brueck to be- come our advisor when we were left with just one. As you can see she relented and we won ourselves a great advisor. Mrs. Brueck gave 110% to our class and was always there when we need- ed her. Thank you for your help and love. We will miss you dearly. The Class of '86 We would also like to thank Mrs. Helen Lane whose wisdom and caring has been an influential part of our high school years. Some of us have been taught by her for 4 years, others less - but all who have been are stronger, more mentally aware individuals because of it. She taught us self-sufficency and free will. We thank you Mrs. Lane for your time and your caring. We wish you all the best in life, which is what you deserve. Thanks 3 With sincere appreciation. The Class of 86 Superin tenden t Mr. Robert Smith You, the class of 1986, are leaving high school at a time of high expectations and uncertainties. Today, and long into the future, your success will be partially a result of dealing fairly and cordially with others. You will, however, also be expected to display more competencies on the job and to learn entirely new skills which we can't even envision today. Our small school environment has given you a broad experience both socially and education- ally. We are too small for you to have isolated yourselves from others who are different, therefore, you have learned how to coexist. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities in which a large percentage of you participate because of the opportunity to do so. Many of our high school classes are relatively small, therefore allowing you the oppportunity to get assistance, when needed or desired, for remediation or acceleration. All of the above will provide you with attitudes and the skills you will need in this ever changing world. Remember one thing, you may come from a small school in a small town, but you had to deal with all of the pressures that students from larger schools do and most of you managed your time well enough to participate in more academic, extra-curricular and social activities than do students in larger schools. Take advantage of that experience and never sell yourselves short. Board Of Education Standing (L to R) Mr. Elliot Adams. Mr. Tony DiPace, Sitting: Mr. Bill Munz, Mr. Paul Kling. Absent from photo. Both my sister Pili and brother Riqui have also attended S.S.C.S. for one year. I enjoyed myself so much participating in the school activities. I would like to say thanks to Mr. and Mrs. David Hayner and family who made us feel at home. I'd also like to say thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Vacca and all my friends who helped me whenever I needed them. Thanks to everybody, it was a great year! Come see me in Mexico. Hasta luego! Exchange Students Hello. My name is Gustavo Arteaga Muller. I am an exchange student from Mexico. I live in Colonia Zaragoza 2316 Nueva Rosita Coahuila. I want to thank each one of you, especially to the girls and boys, with whom I spent good times with. Also for you who welcomed me in a way that I did not expect and to those who taught me new words in my second lan- guage. I also thank the teachers, without excluding my American family Mr. and Mrs. Lynk whom I lived very happily with. I think that it is a great experience to be a foreign exchange student, what I know now is very valuable to me. 1 am very comfort- able here in Sharon Springs, I have met people who are most friendly and who have left a souvenir in my heart. I hope in some way I can give back this favor. For that reason I gave my address above. 29 30 Remember . . . Health Class, speaking of ... I have a relative who . . . They participated in all the parades with the marching band in the Fall and Spring, earning many trophies for Best Front Group During the winter months they also kept busy by joining the Mid-York Circuit of Winter-Guard International. In 1985 they competed in 3 shows: Morrisville, Sherburne- Earlville, where they took 3rd place in Class B , and Mont Pleasant, where they took 1st place in Class B' . In 1986 they moved up to the A division and will compete in shows at Sherburne-Earlville, Clinton, Richfield Springs, and Walton. The girls prepared for these competitions by performing at several home basketball games, entertaining the crowd at half-time. The Colorguard members also traveled to Richmondville in the Fall of 1985 to do a performance and workshop for students there. Keep up the great work girls- and let's hope you make it to the Mid-York Championships this year. It was a total team effort that made it a very rewarding season. For a young team with no seniors, the girls executed plays consistently and prepared themselves mentally to perform well in games, commented Coach Cobb. With an undefeated record of 14-0, the Girls' Varsity Basketball team finished the 1985-86 season with the title of Schoharie County League Champions. This marks the first girls championship for Sharon Springs. Co-captains Denise Stafford and Lisa Roberts were leaders by example and this is one of the reasons for the success of this team. Other reasons for success included good team offense with Jennifer VanHeertum, Debbie Boyle, Heidi Mur- phy, and Chris VanHeertum finishing the season with double figure averages. The girls played several tough defenses allowing opponents 35 points per game. Coach Cobb was also able to call upon non-starters, Terri Manchester, Judy Madden, Lisa Roberts and Lisa Nikolaus for help and they were there when the team needed them. For these many reasons the team accomplished great things. Coach Cobb predicts another strong team next year, as all the girls will be returning. Congratulations Ladies!!!
