SHARON SPRINGS CENTRAL SCHOOL CLARION Dedication Dedication - what word could be more appropriate to the devotion of the time, effort, and concern you have shown in our behalf. Our lives are richer, indeed, for the warmth of your friendship, as well as the guidance and instruction so aptly given. Your qualities of courage of conviction, steadfast loyalty, and devotion to principle above popularity will ever serve as an inspiration to all of us. Thank you Coach Doig, and Mrs. Lane for all you have done for us, for caring, and for your faith in our ability (a faith we sometimes lacked). In die years ahead we shall endeavor to live lives that will give back to others what you have given to us. 2 The Seniors ADMINISTRATION And Arthur and his knighthood for a space We're all one will, and thro' that strength the King Drew in the petty princedoms under him. Fought, and in twelve great battles overcame. The heathen hordes, and made a realm and reigned. — Alfred Lord Tennyson, IDYLLS OF THE KING SEATED: Mr. Kcttlcr, Mrs. Baxter, Mr. Rabuck. STANDING: Dr. Stein, Mr. Schuurman, Mr. Uliman Board of Education MR. WASHBURN MR. VACCA MRS. SCHONDRA Principal's Message It is with sincere congratulations and best wishes that we note the approach of your graduation from Sharon Springs Central School. Upon your graduation each member will go his way into his chosen field. Another link has been made in this ever growing chain which entwines our school and community. No chain can be stronger than its weakest link is an old adage. The graduates and other students strive to make every link genuine, and in so doing, give our school the fine reputation which it has. As you enter adult- hood in our troubled world of today, may the warm spirit and sterling charac- ter which you have cultivated here be carried onward into the hearts and souls of the many with whom you come in contact, and thus create happiness and courage in all to face the many problems of life. A. , . ., M The Spartan soccer team started the year with their eyes on the county championship which they had won last season. The Spartans, led by Coach Doig, were stocked with an abundant supply of upper classmen, and an eager group of able Freshmen. As the season progressed the Spartans kept waiting for the break that never came after tying two games and loosing two more by one goal. The Spartans finished the season with a 3-3-2 record. This record, however, doesn't reflect the effort the boys put forth, or the talent they possessed. The record, though, was good enough to put the Sharon Spartans into the sectionals. During the days that the sectionals were played it was both cold and rainy. In the first game the Spartans met Heatly at Schalmont. This game was won by the Spartans as they rolled over Heatly 4-0. This victory led Sharon to Mayfield where they played Johnsburg. The weather did not bother the Spartans as Coach Doig led them to a big 5-1 victory. This win put the Spartans into the Class E section II finals. Again playing at Mayfield, the Spartans met Northville. It proved to be a long day for the Spartans as they bowed to Northville 6-2. This gave us second place in the Class E sectionals. The Spartans ended the season with an overall record of 5-4-2, and a lot of experienced boys who will be out trying for the Championship next year. The soccer season over - the Spartans switched uniforms and hit the basketball court. The nine man team was out to better their second place finish of last year, and take the Championship trophy away from Berne-Knox. The team rolled along beautifully until they lost the second game in the Christmas Tournament. They won the third game, however, and finished second overall in the tournament. The Spartans returned home to face Berne-Knox. In a game that was very close until the final few minutes. When the game was over Berne was in first place, and Sharon dropped into second. After this defeat the Spartans went on a winning streak that brought 5 victories, 4 home and 1 away. The first victory came when Duanesburg was defeated by the Spartans. Greenville and Richmondville also became victims in quick fashion. Middleburg's defeat was next on the agenda, and it was also the last home game. The Knights were mashed under the awesome attack of the Spartans. The three seniors, Randy, Larry, and Harrie who were in their last season, combined for 47 points, equalling the total output of the Knights. When the game was over the score was 102-47. At this writing the Spartans stand second in the county with three games left to play. Baseball Team Takin' it Easy J Cobleski 11 Day Award Winners FINALE - the 1973 CLARION. Class History Act I in the Drama of Our Lives Scene I of our play at the Globe theatre began with our Freshman year. Mrs. Winne and Mr. Wiley, our advisors, were the main characters. The supporting characters in this action packed comedy were: President - Bob Bartlett, Vice-President - Kathie Bianchine, Secretary - Harrie Washburn, Treasurer - Edith Lundgren: The plot revolved around our roast beef supper and our car-wash workday. In June Mrs. Winne and Mr. Wiley left to play new roles. The end of the year party for them was the climax of the scene. Scene II opens with our Sophomore year. This year Mrs. Eldredge and Miss Clark starred as our advisors. The protagonists we elected were: President - Bob Bartlett, Vice-President - Kathie Bianchine, Secretary - Darlene Lane, Treasurer - Kathy Fitch. Mr. Wiley's return in January, our turkey supper and our car wash - workday accented this convivial scene. The third scene found us as Juniors. After antagonizing two sets of advisors we found Mr. Hol- zer and Mrs. Handy third in line for the major roles. Serving as stagehands were: President - Harrie Washburn, Vice-President - Randy Keller, Secretary - Kathie Bianchine, and Treasurer - Kathy Fitch. Selling cards and candles, and sponsoring the Memorial Day barbecue in May, spotlighted the action of this scene. Intermission over - we resumed our places for the final scene of this drama. Once again Mr. Holzer and Mrs. Handy are in the limelight. Repeating their previous performances are the of- ficers, President; Harrie Washburn, Vice-President: Randy Keller, Treasurer: Kathy Fitch, and Secretary: Kathie Bianchine. Concluding the action was our Election Night supper, and our magazine sale. As the curtain falls, ending Act 1 in the. DRAMA OF OUR LIVES each of us will begin a role of our own since as the poet says All the world's a stage. And all the men and women merely players: ... dlMr =3e
