1960 CLARION ALMA MATER Dear schoolmates ever loyal, true and faithful. Gathering ’neath the maples on the hill. With courage, faith, undaunted for our future - As we older grow, we love thee, still. The Purple and the White shall wave forever. Keep this emblem ever clean and bright. Oh, may the glorious folds be sullied never - Love for aye the Purple and the White. All hail to thee, our dear old Sharon, Open wide your portals to the right - Still o'er the field of conflict ever waving. Float for aye the Purple and the White. SHARON SPRINGS CENTRAL SCHOOL SHARON SPRINGS NEW YORK We, the Class of 1960, dedicate this yearbook to the Sharon Springs Central School Board of Education. These are people who have played an important role in our educa- tion. The members of this group have given much of their time to aid in the education of the youth of the community. Not fully realizing what these people have done for them, stu- dents, who will ultimately benefit from their labors, often take too lightly their most important work. IN MEMORY In memory of Ellery Chamberlain. Who was a friend to all who knew him. Ellery Chamberlain was born May 17. 1892, in the town of Roseboom, New York. He came to Sharon Springs in 1911. In 1913 he started in the ice business. In 1927 Ellery was married to Charlotte Kettner of Jersey City. In March 1944, Ellery became custodian of our school and became a friend to all, students, faculty, parents. Ellery retired February 1959, because of ill health, and died June 5, 1959. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Our competitive world needs skilled artisans and trained minds. These needs will be filled from the ranks of our high school graduates. Your graduation is the initial achievement which we hope will assist you to play a vital role in fulfill- ing these requirements. It is our hope that as members of this class, you will be conscious of your special attributes and put forth your best efforts to use and improve these at- tributes as a constructive force for the betterment of our so- ciety. I know I speak not only for your parents, friends, and rel- atives, but also for the entire staff and administration in ex- tending to you our sincere congratulations and in wishing each of you the very best of fortune and success. CLASS PROPHECY In June 1970, as we the Class of 1960, gather under the Maple trees at Sharon Springs Central School reminiscing about our high school days, many interesting people catch our eye. Leonard Cousineau is now employed by Acme Chemical Co. as official custodian. Lynne Dievendorf is now married to a promising engineer. He is always promising. Nancy DiPace has just returned from France. She was trying to find a husband, but none of them can understand her French. Larry Farro is now known as the Big Gun, to all his syndicate members. Jason Garlock is traveling around the world with the Harem Trotters, and is having a ball. John Istle had just been unanimously elected by the voters of the world to be the first man to live in space. Janet Distelberg is happily married to her high school sweetheart and is living on a farm around Sharon Springs. Kathleen Kelly is leading a happy life as the mother of four little angels. Lynette Lundgren has just retired from her life as a secretary and is ready to settle down. Peter Melera, a graduate of military school is serving his country by peel- ing potatoes in the Army. Stephen LaGuardia was not able to attend this reunion. He fell down the stairs in his home and broke his leg. Arthur Meka, a film technician in Hollywood is dating one of the Holly- wood starlets. George Nikolaus is now employed in the Doodle-bug Co. and is remodel- ing perfectly good cars into doodle-bugs. Loyal Ream is combing the beaches of Waikiki Beach. Dr. Evelyn Schilde has just returned from the Belgium Congo where she has studied their advanced medical practices. Ruthann Scholz flew back from Hawaii, where she and her husband have set up housekeeping. Roxanna Slater is helping her husband run a small farm in the Mohawk Valley and is raising two little Indians. Richard Tripp, employed by United Airlines, is, as always, keeping one eye on the route and one eye on the girls. Leonard Vernik, employed by the Aluminum Corp., is trying to find out how Kaiser makes quilted foil. Janet Wilday is head of the culinary department in Washington. Mrs. Empie has retired from teaching and is publishing cookbooks. Mr. Miller has just brought suit against Dictionaries, Inc. because he found an error in their dictionary.
