Text from Pages 1 - 68 of the 1958 volume:

Cun 76e In this edition of the Clarion we pay respect to the farmers of Sharon Springs. Without the untiring patronage and munificence of these farmers, it would not be possible to have the school that we have today. The main student body of Sharon Springs Central come from the farms of the surrounding country side. The picturesque hills and valleys of Sharon Springs are dotted with the farms, large and small, that make Sharon Springs the peaceful haven it is. To show our appreciation to the farmer we will use his ideals as the theme of the 1958 Clarion. Editor-in-chief (ZC uott f$5% 4C h ’Tftaten, Dear schoolmates ever loyal, true and faithful. Gathering 'neath the Maples on the hill. With courage, faith, undaunted for our future- As we older grow, we love thee, still. The Purple and the White shall wave forever. The achievements of our modern scientists and skilled technicians would appear to be adequate to keep us abreast of present modern day progress, but this is not enough. To keep our mode of living modern, safe, and progressive we need trained per- sonnel whose imagination and creative ideas are the essential ingredients to the kind of progress which will keep us not only equal to but superior to the progress made by our competitors. It is to you - our graduates - to whom we must look to assist us in taking the giant steps so essential to the develop- ment of the future progress of our nation. We sincerely hope that your initial achievements and successes in the Sharon Springs Central School have adequately prepared you to realize your maximum capabilities as you embark upon this mission. Congratulations and best wishes in your efforts to fulfill the obligations with which this modern era challenges you. STODDARD has just completed a world tour with the world famous S.S.C.S. Boy's Ensemble. 'r cAto'Uf t ce @Cei4 f In 1946 our class entered first grade with five of our present members. Miss Kitts was our teacher and we remember how she dismissed us at 2:00 every afternoon. From second grade with Miss Wilson to sixth grade with Mr. Fitch we did nothing out of the ordinary. We got ourselves into a little more than the usual amount of mischief but all of our teachers somehow managed to put up with us. Seventh grade made us feel a little more important. Now we had a room up- stairs, and in eighth grade we changed rooms for every class which really made us belong. FRESHMAN YEAR 1954-1955 Thirteen members of our present class entered high school with an air of dig- nity but lost much of that when we went through a day of ridiculous clothes, onion smells throughout the school, and an unwanted shower topped with flour on our heads - this commonly known as freshman initiation. Later on in the year we held a junior re- turn party. Mrs. Lynk watched us and stuck with us during our first year of a very im- portant four years in our lives. CLASS OFFICERS FOR THAT YEAR WERE: President.....................................DALE BLOTHENBURG Vice President..................................KARLA DOOLITTLE Secretary............................................IRENE HANER Treasurer....................................... JUNIOR LAMBERT SOPHOMORE YEAR 1955-1956 Our sophomore year began with a new advisor, new officers, new subjects, and new attitudes. Miss Salem helped us through the year with these officers: President..............................................JOHN MILLER Vice President.........................................ALLEN N1RSCHL Secretary..............................................IRENE HANER Treasurer.............................................JUNIOR LAMBERT When Allen left us in December, Mary Jane Garlock took over the duties of vice president. This year we had a bake sale and a skating party to help us towards a trip in 1958. JUNIOR YEAR 1956-1957 In September 1956 we took one more step in the direction of our diplomas. Dur- ing the year we held bake sales, a skating party, and, with the Class of 1957, a Junior- Senior Prom. After the first semester the candy and soda selling job became ours. Our former advisor, now Mrs. Abbadessa. remained with us and helped us to the end of our third year in high school. President . . . Vice President Secretary . . . Treasurer . . . OUR JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS WERE: ......................JUNIOR LAMBERT ...................DALE BLOTHENBURG .......................... PAT NEALE .........................IRENE HANER SENIOR YEAR 1957-1958 Mr. Stoddard joined forces with Mrs. Abbadessa in the fall of our senior year. We now realized, more than ever before, how important this year was to be. The first day of school we elected the following people to fill the offices for our final year: President..............................................MIKE PUTLACK Vice President................................JOHN MEKA Secretary.....................................IRENE HANER Treasurer ...........................................JUNIOR LAMBERT We held bake sales and paper and scrap-iron drives; we sold magazines, pen sets, jewelry, and Christmas cards, plus candy and soda; and we sponsored a dance, several movies, and a supper. As 1957 draws to a close and the New Year greets us we wonder what it will bring. Even though our money-making activities will soon be finished we will have many other ties that hold us together until that big night in June. After that we will each go our separate ways but none of us will ever be able to forget all the events which occurred during our twelve years at S. S.C. S. and all of our teachers and friends who have influenced our lives. (assos First row: G. Silvers, B. Ahl, S. Dingman, J. Button, J. Whitbeck, B. Croinex, M. Fukomoto. Second row: Miss Stern, M. L.
