Halloween Party Sharon Mutual High School was the setting of the adventures of Eduardo Marcondes Ed as he was known around school was an eighteen year old ex change student from Sao Paulo Brazil Ed arrived in Mutual Oklahoma on July 20 1981 He had flown from Sao Paulo to Miami and then on to Oklahoma City At Oklahoma City he was met by Boyd and Sonya Griffith who were going to be Ed s adoptive family for the next year When asked if he had known anything about Mutual or Oklahoma Ed replied I know a little He had an older brother who had stayed with the Griffiths for a couple of weeks in 1978 Also the Griffith s son Wade had stayed with Ed s family in Brazil for three months in 1978 Although Ed knew a little about Mutual he was not totally prepared for his first glimpse of the town of Mutual He was expecting to drive into a metropolis when he was informed that he was in town Ed felt that Mutual and the surrounding area was a peaceful community However after living here for a few weeks and meeting some of his classmates Ed changed his mind So much for the peaceful atmospherell After participating in football basketball and many other school activities during the first semester, Ed decided to remain at Sharon-Mutual High School for the remainder of the school year. During the school year, Ed lettered in basketball and track. He was chosen Student of the Month by the faculty, received the Work Horse Award in FFA, and he participated in the Junior and Senior play. As Ed's year was drawing to a close and he would be leaving the United States to go to Europe after school was out, he was asked to recall a few of his favorite memories and to sum up his past year. He stated, The people here are the friendliest peo- ple in the world. His fondest memory was being with his friends in school. He thought that his stay here was a really good experience because he was able to learn the language and the American way of life. The most outstanding events during his stay were all the good and bad experiences that he shared with his friends. Ed's future plans include going to college in Brazll to study agriculture and then to find a job. Someday he would like to return to the United States for a visit. Although Ed is leaving, he will not forget the many memories of all the good times that he and the students of SMHS shared!!! NOR WILL WE FORGET YOU ED! Our Exchange Student 7 JR. The seniors left Mutual at 10:00 p.m., Sunday, May 16, after gradua- tion was postponed because of heavy rain and flooding. Arriving in Orlan- do, Florida, at 1:30 p.m., Monday, the seniors checked into the Caravan Resort Inn for five days of touring and Florida sun and fun. Sea World was toured on Tuesday, Disney World in Wednesday and Cypress Garden on Thursday. Thursday night dinner was eaten in the famous Rosie O'Grady Restaurant. Friday was a free day so most of the seniors went to Daytona Beach to get a tan, but were rained out after about 15 minutes of sunning and playing in the ocean. After leaving the beach a stop was made at the Daytona Speedway. A tired but excited group of seniors arrived in Mutual at 10:00 p.m., Saturday, after leaving Orlando at 1 1:00 that morning. 34 Senior Trip World Leaving for Florida. They did Batik which is using hot wax and crayons to make a design on cloth. Ink Block printing was also on the agenda. The year provided many new and fun learning experiences for the Junior High Art Class. The Higb School Art Class kept busy this year. They learned to draw in perspective, to paint with watercolors, and to do ink drawings. Calligraphy, which is Old English writing, was also practiced. Other class projects included the Trojan drawing on the gym wall painted by the Sophomore and Senior art members. The Juniors were responsible for the art work for the Jr.-Sr. Prom. The art classes also traveled to Oklahoma City to attend the Young Talent Art Show. Denise Thompson, a senior, had a colored pencil drawing on display there. Her draw- ing was accepted by Young Talent in Oklahoma. Senior art class works on prom.
