'fm M N 'la N N N N 'll N 'N N 'A N 'Q N N N N It N H N N 'M 'I MRKKK x x TH HISTORY OF TH CLAQS OF l9b8 I hesitated when I was asked to prepare this picture of the Class of l9L8, in its Junior year, for your inspection I was not an artist and everybody knew it The Class of l9b8 is a very lively subject for even an expert to attempt to sketch Even a snapshot could never catcl them in anything better than a blur But, as it seems my fate to be expected to hold the mirror up before the se twelve boys and girls who have been my classmates for so long and let them selves as others see them This, then, dear frlends, is the Class of l9L8, as I see it today X 'K KRW! K XXXKXKXMXNKWKKXXK 'K X X X XXXXXXKXX XXX XXX X 1 x -5 s s x x x x x N x N x x x M 'Q 1: m 12 x x 2: x Q H. w D 4 X The Class of l9L8 is made up of twelve members-eight girls and four boys, which are Glennys Neagle, Helen Leach N011 Symes 111118 Bfittainy Bonnie Gu thrie, Ima Jean Irvln, Delorls Triplet, Pauline Pike, Gene Glendinning, Nor man Arthaud, J D Mathews, and Gerald Nations We range in age from Gerald's sixteen years and flve months, to Pauline's seventeen years and six ronths We range in height from Helen's f1ve feet two inches high heels long hat feather, and all, to Gene Glendlnn1ng's six foot two, with or without his silk stockings We range in weight from Delorls' one hundred and one pounds to Gerald's one hundred and sixty five Taken altogether as the one in body that we are supposed to be in spirit we make up an lndividual of sufficient age to know a great deal lf he's ever going to begln to learn, for he would be two hundred and five years old sure ly an age or wlsdom, and power, and dignlty, verging upon veneratlon Our height 18 sixty seven feet five lnches which certainly ralses us far enough up in the world to allow us to tower above our enemies, and look down upon the inferior classes You can see, too, what a heavy proposition we are by the fact that taken altogether, and even glving due conslderation to Deloris dainty flgure, we tip the scales at exactly at sixteen hundred and forty eight pounds We are all Amerlcans, for though we may be descended from many different nationalities, we are all united under the red, whlte, and blue of the Star Spangled Banner and the colors of our class and school We are accomplished in all things We have often proved to you how well we can sing, dance, reed, reclte, and perform in many entertaining ways before the public We have all proven our prowess 1D BCHlCtlCS and won many honors for our class and school Je all llke to do steady work under the tutorship of some erson older than ourselves Ve will appreciate it if you wlll kind ly refra n Irom unkind lHSlHu8tlOHS along thls llne Indeed what we do not know has seemed to us to be scarely worth the learnlng Jhat we do know has of the reasons why we know it but we have nothlng further to add along this line He have wlthin our ranks poets, UUS1Ci6HS, lecturers actresses, preach ers, statesmen, phllosophers professors, Judges, pnyslclans authors, art ists, warrlors, and one Unlted Jtates presldent not ask me to specify the which or the who Ask me thlrty years from now, and perhaps I may be able to say, for, of course, they are stlll in a state of partial development, and while I can tell you what they are now 'It doth not yet appear what they shall be But thls, dear friends 13 a subdued plcture of the Class of l9L8 crudely sketched from my present perspective I dld not use the brilliant colors of my Imagination, lest I should lay myself open to the charge of undue self ap preciation or exaggeratlon Far be lt from our w1sh to run any such risk as that' suffice it to say that while the career of the Class has from the very beginning been glowing with color and brightness, lt is only a glimpse of the great things it foreshadows, when Llfe, as the master artlst, mixes the shades that have been decreed by the forces of destiny for the painting of the perma nent and eternal canvas that shall last throughout the ages as the perfect and n estructible Class Picture of 19h yxxxxtxt Mr Mac Kon basket ball triplCan I get rooms for 23?
