“3 .gY?iE'EEE!iiE!f!iIilfifiiiilfllI: S HISTORY OF TIE SEIIIORS y Now the history of the class of seven-and-forty, of the High School of ' the City of Mutual, County of Woodward, State of Oklahoma, is in this wise: if In the beginning, in the third and fortieth year of Our Lord, in the f if First Monday in September, there entered into this land of learning, eleven ,J seekers of knowledge. Some came un from the eighth grade, where they had for ? many months been busily engaged in storing their rinds with the honey of wis dom, some were green and fresh from a far country some came from farms where they had been tillers of the soll, and some were from other halls of lrstruc tion And it came to pass, as they did enter th1s land, that they were receiv ed with wild welcoming and regoicings by those who it was decreed should henceforth lead them up the slippery by ways of knowledge Likewise it came also to p ss that they were received with malicious go, by a certain band of wild beings who were called 'sophomores and wno because of their fierce taste for Freshman blood dld pounce upon them daily and nightly and did cause ther to suffer great things and to say 1U thelr hearts WBehold, bl ssed be the name of 7dUC8tlOH for because of lt have we suffered great torments both of the body and of the mlnd Verlly have we been martyrs to its great and noble cause' And as they dwelt long in the lend they fell in with the customs of the inhabitants thereof, and their strangeness wore away, and they each became as one among the rest Now lt came to pass soon after they entered the lend that they were one and all seized with a strange infirmity, which did cause them to act with much fierceness and strangeness of manner and to grapple and wrestle with their fellows in much rage and seeming ferocity Wise men were called to look upon them who did examine them with muon care and pains and did final ly pronounce the infirmity, Basketball and did assure the frightened lead ers that the malady while it needs rust be contaglous, and likewise sometimes fatal, was yet a necessary evil and incurable So w th many enxlous fears, and dlre forebodings, did the instructors allow the d seese to run its course and Lo, none were killed, and few were seriously ingured, whereat there was great renoiclnv throughout the land and even noreso when six of their :em bers, three boys and three girls, lettered at the end of the fourth year And it came to pass after sone onthe, the end of the first y ar, our class number was still eleven Now it came to pass at the beginning of the second year that a new band of youths did come up fron the adgoinina territory, and the class of four and forty in the new dlgnity of thelr prorotion, renenbered the days of their own greeness and as the Sophomores of their days had done unto them, even so did they unto these new Freshman and did snow no mercy until all were bruis ed and full of much sorrow low lt so happened that this land to which they had core was luled over by one known as J B Creech, a professor of such wisdom, and at the beginning of the second year, he spoke unto them saylng ' o gather ye in e body and organize yourselves lnto a lass that may gain in strength, and that your courage mar wax hot' So was it done and they chose ,lbert Ph1l7lDS, President, and tary Ruth schmidt Secretary and Treasurer and called themselves with much pride the class of forty four And the whole number at the end of the second year Nas H1W8 And it cane to pass in thelr Junlor Veer a e eat c 5 went uo from the throats of the RIBBON class Lo If lt dot. napnen that me are to embark lars And so 1hlrkln these thln s, the class unfer the UlTECC on of Iola Arthaud their spon or, presented the play Nkystery at l1GHlDht and people did turn out 1D large numbers to thls play and old make of t a success that dell ht9Q the hearts of the greedy uUlti+UG9, and the courafe ol the class was MBQ strong And Lyle Doulson ant Almeta Natlons loyally carrled out the dutmes o class Off1CQFS OUT1HQ this th lr uunior year af the end of th s gear the weary and worn students alon w th the een 1ors and others left on the uuch planned and WBltPd for ourney to ew Or leans and Biloxi Whlth r fresh d both body ann rlnds of And the :hole nllber at the SFU of the tllTO year we ten Now this the fourth year ln the h story of thls great and wonderful class of s ven and forty h s b r one of much hard lalor, and but 1 restlnv bv the way side, for treparetlors nsve b n IBhl1H xeadx for th to take thel f nal cenarture fro tde lund How it came to pass, as fh6lT DTlOG Drew to reat UlgIGS nwthln the ff' ff- - af 5 F ffff If -Q 5, ififfiifiliiji i k gf, 5 . , W B . . s , - 4 ' . - 9 f' 2 Q ' Q - Q L .
