From time immemorial, mountains, lakes, oceans and sky have challenged his urge to conquer. Plenty ol hard work, disaster and dis- couraging deteats have beset the path ol the aviator. It has been a long and difficult struggle, not only against the laws of nature, but against ignorance, superstition and preju- dice. The brilliant record ot aviation, however, is best summed up in the motto ot the Royal Air Force'- Per Ardua Ad Astra ,-the long, uphill struggle toward the stars. You, too, can achieve the ultimate star of a good position. a happy home, the respect and love of family and friends, and an abiding faith if you are willing to pay the price of hard work, thrift, clear thinking and a clear trust in God and your fellow man. Although your destinations differ widely, you are all heading into a world at war. It is a world that will make heavy demands upon you. As true, loyal American citizens, you must be willing to assume these new and exacting responsibili- ties, even though it will entail using all the courage, knowledge and faith at your com- mand. As you wing your way through lite and pilot your ship into the unknown, may you keep in mind those prophetic words of Tennyson: For I dipt into the future far as human eye could see, Saw the Vision ot the world, and all the wonder that would beg Saw the heavens till with commerce, argosies of magic sails, Pilots of the purple twilight, dropping down with costly balesf' your Ubalesu be laden with good deeds.
