VVngner Supervising Principal To the Class ol 1945: Congratulations and Best Vvishes to you as you Htake olltn from school into a world at war. lVlan,s natural curiosity knows no bounds. From time immemorial, mountains, lakes, oceans and sky have challenged his urge to conquer. Plenty ol hard work, disaster and dis- couraging deteats have beset the path ol the aviator. It has been a long and difficult struggle, not only against the laws of nature, but against ignorance, superstition and preju- dice. The brilliant record ot aviation, however, is best summed up in the motto ot the Royal Air Force'- Per Ardua Ad Astra ,-the long, uphill struggle toward the stars. You, too, can achieve the ultimate star of a good position. a happy home, the respect and love of family and friends, and an abiding faith if you are willing to pay the price of hard work, thrift, clear thinking and a clear trust in God and your fellow man. The faculty and student body join me in best wishes. Remember, if you try hard enough, your possibilities are a Ceiling Unlimited. C. K. WAGNER. - lwr. Hugh K. Iotmslon Assistant Principal To the Class ol 1945: As you take olt into the blue on your tlight from school, our heartiest Wishes go with you for a happy trip and a sale landing. Although your destinations differ widely, you are all heading into a world at war. It is a world that will make heavy demands upon you. As true, loyal American citizens, you must be willing to assume these new and exacting responsibili- ties, even though it will entail using all the courage, knowledge and faith at your com- mand. As you wing your way through lite and pilot your ship into the unknown, may you keep in mind those prophetic words of Tennyson: For I dipt into the future far as human eye could see, Saw the Vision ot the world, and all the wonder that would beg Saw the heavens till with commerce, argosies of magic sails, Pilots of the purple twilight, dropping down with costly balesf' your Ubalesu be laden with good deeds. FLIGHT LUIS FRE SHMAN YEAR High school at last, was the sigh of the freshmen that bright September morn. Alter the excitement of being freshmen wore olri, we settled down to wait for the arrival of our school pins. They linally came in December and, golly be. what a commotionl The way we acted you would think we were the first ones ever to receive pins. At the end of the year We celebrated by having a picnic at Morton. SOPHOMORE YEAR Our Sophomore year started oii with a bang by having Elwood Wylie win the A. A. Drive prize. Wirlm Renay Heclcman, Elwood Wylie, Mary Schuler and Richard Anstey as our officers, we presented an Armistice Day and Lincoln's Birth- day assembly program. The long-looked forward to Sophomore Hop was a huge success and we sophomores were proud of our efforts. We concluded this breathtaking year with a picnic at Springfield. JUNIOR YEAR 1 uduniorn-the word spelled enchantment to us. We knew this year held a lot in store for us and we started it olil by presenting an Armistice Day program in assembly. The next thing in our flight was our Junior Prom, but due to the worid conditions We called it the Hvictory Ball and donated a percentage oi the money to the U. S. O. At last the school rings arrived and you never saw a more excited group of Juniors. When the novelty of the new rings Wore olll, we started worlc on the Junior Play, HA Full Housef' 'Ir was directed by Mr. Fernsler and was another success credited to our account. The big day had linally arrived-the Seniors left for Washington and we Juniors didn't waste any time in talcing over the run of the school. We started off with Baby Day and followed with Dress Up Day. This year, under the supervision of Renay Heclcman, Mary' Schuler, Donald Porter, Richard Anstey and Vvilliam Duicho, was brought to a close with a picnic at Springheld. SENIOR YEAR As we started our Senior Year, we lcnew we were on the last hop ol our trip. Our liirst function was to give a farewell party for our sponsor, lVlr. Kennedy, who left school to enter defense worlc. He was replaced by lVlr. Fay. Due to the war and laclc ol' transportation facilities, we gave up our trip to Washington and diverted our attention to the Senior play, Gut of the Frying Panf, under the direction of lVl,1'. Fernsler. Here we challced up another success, No sooner was this over than we started plans for our Senior Final. Our eliorts were not in vain, as the dance was enjoyed by all. With our officers, Jack Fitzwater, Beverly Shutes, Betty Vveihenmayer, Howard Landon and our sponsors, lVliss Roth and Wir. Fay, the class held a ban- quet to malce merry together lor the last time. The Vesper Service held on Sunday night was a very inspiring occasion for each. class member. On June S, 1945, the eve of commencement, we knew that we had completed our liight through school and were ready to talce oft again, but this time into a world of war. Since We had to cie- velop inexperienced players in seven positions on the Varsity Team, We had quite a iot of difficulty in the beginning of the season. This is the first time in Sharon Hilrs hockey history that this situation ixas arisen. We had a fine cooperative spirit and eagerness to learn, but we CIicin't have time experience of varsity com- petition, consequently we piayeci a mechanical type of game. Our future team will proioaioiy profit by this year's playing. The schedule con- sisted of seven games, one 0fWl'liCI1 was a vic- tory anci time others losses. The Junior Varsity hockey team had a very cooperative and successful season. Their record shows four victories, one tie and one loss. Pauline Nelson is given credit for being a very efficient manager, anci Mrs. Berlce won our gratitude by her excellent coaching join.
