As a result of this being one of the largest Sophomore classes, more home rooms became Sopho- more home rooms, and the Sophomores had the priv- ilege of eating ,with the Seniors. Because of the unfamiliar halls and class rooms the 409 pupils began the year somewhat bewildered. In a short time, and after a dip in the third floor swimming pool, the Sophomores confidently dom- inated the halls and classes with their large number. Juniors and Seniors heartily welcomed the Sopho- mores at the annual Sophomore rally and at their official initiation, The Sophomore Hop. ' Juniors To be qualified as a Junior, one must bein his second year of high school and must be taking American History and English III. The Junior year is the first year for selection of class officers, who represent the class, and for class rings, the pride of all students and the envy of all Sophomores. Also, for the first time, the Juniors be- come a part of the long awaited Junior-Senior Prom. One of the most important events of the Junior year is the selection of a foreign - exchange student to go abroad in his senior year. The Junior year is a delightful one, for the stu- dents now have more prestige and more activities and are closer to the day when they will be mighty Seniors. Seniors What are Seniors? To a Sophomore they are the High and the Mighty. And every Sophie has the feeling I can't wait until I'm one. To aJunior, Seniors are a little different. They are dates to the Junior-Senior Prom, upperclassmen, who are not gods anymore, and friends, something he will be next year. But to Seniors, themselves, Seniors are complex, disorganized humans with ambitions of becoming mature adults who are Learning today, leading tomorrow. They have many problems that confront them, and yet they still find time to participate in many of the schoo1's activities. You can be sure, our Seniors--the high and mighty, dates to the prom, and demigods--are tops in any field. 1 F N P Q 1 7 ROOM 11 ROW ONE: Robert Bergkessel, Ralph Boland, Jim Becker, Richard Billioni, Mark Bolotin, Gary Bonger, Donna Bouslough, Elizabeth Amon, Mary Ellen Bicek, Ruth Bechtel, Trevelyn Addicott,Barbara Barger, Charlotte Biller, Dorothy Applegate, Katherine Argenson, Sam Axtell. Seniors It is with mixed feelings that we find ourselves leaving Sharon High School and facing the world. As the class of '62 is about to leave we cannot help recall the many areas in which our alma mater has progressed. In our sophomore year the first foreign exchange student came to Sharon High. This year we are honored to be the first class to have two exchange students. We welcome these fine students who have added greatly to our experiences. This year new innovations have appeared. The gym floor has been painted and is sporting a new S. The new comfortable chairs and the beauty of the aud- itorium will be enjoyed by our students of course, but also the citizens of our community. The language laboratory has been initiated this year with highhopes of success. These things and many more add much to the progress that is inherent in the Sharon School System-- and proves the character and quality of the citizens of our community. We will have left some part of us in our school, but will take with us a large measure of honor, tradition, memories, and hopes that we may go forth with strong and purposeful ideals. We are honored to have Mr. Currier as a member of our graduating class. We feel he surely adds any prestige that we lacked. The class of '62 says goodbye, thankyou, and good luck, Sharon High School and Hello World! Encouraging interest in sports and providing opportunities for develop- ment of skills, the intramural program also presents excellent situations for students to learn fair attitudes. Competitive sports are promoted throughout the school: basketball, volley- ball, Indian base , badminton, golf, tennis , table tennis, foul shooting and touch football. Teams of girls are selected within physical education classesg boys form teams within home roomsg and any interested pupils volunteer for com- petition in individual sports. The team displayed great depth and potential throughout the season. They played very well in pre- section action losing only one encounter, at the hands of a very tough Ford City aggregation. The Bengals started Section 3 play with an impressive victory over Ellwood City. However, at Aliquippa the Tigers were handed a 63-49 setback. This was perhaps, the turning point of the cam- paign. Although our team never lost its spirit or drive, they ended the season with a 5-7 record in the section. Much effort on the part of the players and Head Coach Donald Bennett and Alex Chrobak must be recognized. Much thanks goes to our team and coaches for fielding a team that played rugged, thrilling basketball. ...L ,l, Faculty Manager, George Stover. 115 '6lf62 BasketbaH Season Sharon Sharon Sharon sharon Sharon Sharon Sharon Sharon iSharon YSharon 'Sharon xSharon Sharon YSharon 'Sharon tSharon +Sharon tSharon +Sharon tSharon tSharon xSharon Seniors 51 40 79 43 54 44 56 52 54 49 40 63 60 54 33 38 58 54 51 53 61 60 3 Games Youngstown Rayen Sharpsville Plum Boro Ford City Erie Prep Meadville Youngstown South Hickory Ellwood City Aliquippa Ambridge New Castle Kittanning Beaver Falls Farrell Ellwood City Aliquippa Ambridge New Castle Pgh. To begin with, the ad- ministration acts as the legislative body in setting up the policies of the school. The faculty carry out the policies and are the educators of youth. Keeping the youth of our school in good physical condition is the job of the medical staff. The doctor and nurse conduct physical examinations and annual hearing and vision tests.
