Likens, Harvey E. Moore, Solicitorg J. Frank Sherwood Jr. fr.. gi WL. IL School Qzhflzict STANLEY N. CURRIER, Principal The most successful Americans throughout their lives have refused to entertain the thought of failure in any undertaking. Negative thinking brings negative results. We should feed our minds as we feed our bodies. Start today to prac- tice good, wholesome, thinking, you will be amazed to realize that within a short time you will change from a negative to a positive attitude. X Basically, students today have as much potential ability as boys and girls have ever had. Often, however, stu- dents remark that they cannot get a particular subject. Obviously, their rea- soning is based on lack of confidence brought about by lack of application. Ulf ye have faith as a mustard seed . . . . . . . nothing shall be impossible to you. What about the evaluation committee? It is an accepted fact that we tend to become like those with whom we asso- ciate. Our own ideas are powerfully in- fluenced-for better or for worse-by the ideas of those whose company we enjoy. Choose your associates with these thoughts in mind. It is one of the greatest secrets of success. If you watch every opportunity to cultivate the friendship of individuals who are alert, confident, loyal, self-reliant-individ- uals who are success minded-you will quickly find yourself absorbing the qualities they possess. Their vigor, their aggressiveness, their unusual capabil- ities will act as a spur to your own en deavors to improve yourself. It is my sincere hope that you will continue to associate with individuals that lead you to bigger things PETER J. BARBARA JOYCE RIDDLE November 30, 1955 The song of the thrush in an April rain- The song that made me weep- The song of joy that covered the pain- The song that ended in sleep. And though the thrush has Godward flown, To know Eternity, Her soaring spirit is our own, Her song, a memory. The thrush, belonging to lilacs and spring, Died in the winter snow. Almost every activity period finds our or- chestra practicing diligently in order to present us with highly polished musical ar- rangements. Their participation makes our assemblies and concerts a little more inviting. Mr. Stewart, coming to us from Kane, Pa., took over the orchestra in October, after the departure of Mr. Ronald Teare last year. Mr. Stewart is doing an excellent job in conduct- ing the orchestra. Finest team we ever had in my eight years as head coach of Sharon High, are a great compliment to the Midwestern Conference Champions. What helped to make a winner at Sharon this year? The overall good spirit and hard work of the team, the wonderful support and loyalty of the school, the blessing of few injuries to key personnel, and the fine leader- ship and instruction of the coaching staff are just a few of the reasons for Sharon's success. Perhaps the greatest disappointment to the team was the hardluck defeat at Butler. The Tigers pushed the Golden Tornado all over the gridiron but didn't score enough points. Butler scored on a long gamer but was overwhelmed in the final statistics. This defeat cost the team a chance to play for the W. P. I. A. L. title. 1 The 19 to 0 victory over Farrell was a fit- ting climax to a fine season. Sharon showed its superiority over previously undefeated Farrell in the hardest hitting football game seen in the Valley in many years. After winning the New Castle Tournament in December the Tigers found the going a little rough in Section Three. The team fin- ished the season with a respectable record of seventeen victories and five defeats. The Junior Varsity also had a good season with a record of seventeen and three. Injuries and superb competition kept the Tigers from returning to Pittsburgh. Sharon loses eight Seniors but all-section forward Elvorne Ferguson returns next year.
