The Mirror Staff is responsible for the preparation of our school annual in which school life is pictured in its various phases. - Their work includes selecting the theme of the Mirror, choosing the color and design of the cover, and gathering, editing and arranging the literary and pictorial portions of this book. Membership on the staff is based on interest and adapt- ability to the work involved and is limited to members of the senior and iunior classes. Should this book serve to bring back memories of three eventful years spent at Sharon High and to revive the Tiger spirit, the staff and its faculty advisor, Mrs. Olga Connelly, will feel that their efforts have been well rewarded. Sharon High School is promoted in every possible way by the Gazette, which reports both social and academic school activities, giving its readers an ac- curate and complete account of school life. Spice and clarity are added by the use of pictures. To become a staff member, one must have seven- teen inches of original material printed, and to remain on the staff, he must continue to furnish first rate news 70 items. This year the Gazette helped further tions by publishing eight fine issues in Herald. Vernece Saeger Chapter of the Future Teachers of America. The club, which boasts of over titty members, was founded in l955. Its main obiective is to stimulate interest in the teaching profession. Speeches, panel discussions, and movies serve as interesting programs throughout the year. Miss E. Vernece Saeger is advisor ot this organization. AB COZNFAJK l!0iC8fJ 0 OMJ' 0lfLC8l f GLOW . The Sharon High School Concert Choir, under the direction of William M. Blough, has worked long and hard for its reputation as one of the finest choirs in the area. The members of the choir consist of those Sopho- mores, Juniors, and Seniors who have passed a rigid audition. Several times throughout the school year, the choir presents, in a professional-like manner, a concert of varied music. The traditional Christmas and Spring Concerts are always musical highlights in the valley. The group is also very proud of its own system of student government and self grading, which has proved very effective. The answer to such success for an amateur group? A most able director plus the determination of the members to produce nothing but the best in music. 93' Row 1: Marilou Pinch, Janet Rudesill, Barbara Stein, Carroll Bobby, Nancy Otte, Hope Jolley, Joan Kahl, Brenda Miller. Orchestral music tells a story or paints a picture with musical tones, requiring prac- tice and close attention to the director. By practicing arduously during tour activity periods each week, our orchestra is able to present programs of appropriate instrumental music whenever the occasion arises. The pleasant result of its tireless work is demonstrated at concerts, assemblies, plays, and special school programs. Upon the departure of Mr. Frank Daly, Mr. Ronald Teare was chosen to conduct the orchestra. The fine co-operation between the orchestra and its directors has helped make this year a successful one. The Future Nurses' Club of Sharon High School helps girls to obtain a general knowledge of nursing. New members receive a week of training at the Nurses' Home. Then they begin working at Sharon General Hospital, making beds, arranging flowers, and feeding patients. As we help, we learn is the club's motto. After completing twenty-five hours of service, the girls receive name pins. For half the season some mem- bers of the squad were handicapped by iniuries. Such was the case for Big Tom Phillips, who broke his wrist, and Joe McNerney, who suffered a broken ankle. Other members of the squad were hampered by the flu, making practice sessions irregular and difficult. Despite these setbacks the team enioyed a fairly suc- cessful season. However, interest and enthusiasm mounted as the Tigers, through their excellent defensive tactics, con- tinued to win most o,f their games. Highlighting the regular season's play was the final home game in which Sharon and Farrell, tied for first place in Section lll, battled fiercely for the coveted crown. The Tigers' diligent practice and expert coaching paid off, as Sharon emerged the exultant victor, 55-46. This victory opened the doors to the Pitt Field House and a chance to defend our State Title. Hopes ran high as Sharon won their first two WPIAL contests. Washington, however, had their own title ideas and eliminated Sharon in the semi- final round. This season marks the end of high school basket- ball careers for Ed Winters and George Kemper who gave sterling performances. Special credit goes to these boys and to Coach Bud Laycock and Assistant Coach Don Bennett whose tireless efforts have con- tinued to produce winning teams. 101 elziom , 1 E ......-........
