In the past few years our lives have been speeded up to a point where we are not able to take time to read the newspaper, we will glance at the headlines and pictures in order to extract an overall view of the news. Thus, this new type of living is prevalent in all fields of work and play. The American peo- ple have pursued an escape for faster living, therefore, we have reverted to the ancient idea of using symbols to represent the many ideas of our daily living. As a result of this change we use mottos, trade-names, emblems, slogans, and trade-marks representing all as- pects of religious, economic, political, and so- cial fields of endeavor. In picking up the newspaper, or in reading a billboard while driving down the highway, one will be con- fronted with symbolism at every turn, be it Little Lulu or Uncle Sam, pointing at every eighteen year old boy, urging him to join the armed forces. In searching for a theme for our yearbook, we were amazed by the fact that the trend toward symbolism has taken its toll in the many facets of life at Sharon High. In our yearbook we have endeavored to incorpor- ate the many symbols of our activities into the pages of this book. Without a doubt the foremost symbol of the spirit of Sharon High is our Alma Mater, which symbolizes all phases of life at Sharon High School.
